Ariyalur is one of the districts in Tamilnadu it is rich in limestone resource. A study on geochemical characterization of ground water and its suitability for drinking purposes was carried out. Twenty five groundwater samples were collected from bore wells and open wells during Pre monsoon seasons of 2014. Groundwater is the main principle source for drinking, irrigation water and other activities in our study area. It is an indispensable source of our life. The problem of groundwater quality obtains high importance in this present-day, whether in the study area or any other countries in the world. Studies on Groundwater Quality in and Around Kothamangalm Taluk, Kerala, India
The water quality index (WQI) is a single number that expresses the quality of water by integrating the water quality variables. This paper deals with the assessment of ground water quality in and around Kothamangalam Taluk, Kerala state of India.. For calculating the WQI the following 12 physic-chemical parameters such as pH, Electric Conductivity, Total Dissolved Solids, Total Alkalinity, Chlorides, Total Hardness, Dissolved Oxygen, Fluoride, Calcium, Magnesium, Sulphate and Nitrate have been considered. WQI obtained ranges from 26 to 9199.977. High value of WQI is mainly due to higher concentrations of iron which makes the water unsuitable for drinking.

The aim of present study was to assess the quality of ground water from Kumbakonam region in Thanjavur district, and check its fitness for drinking and other purpose. An eight ground water samples were collected from various parts of Kumbakonam region. The physicochemical parameters such as calcium, magnesium, chloride was determined by titration method, sulphate, nitrate, nitrite were analyzed by spectrophotometric method, pH was determined by pH metric method and other parameters were analyzed by Indian standard method. Physicochemical parameter of ground water samples were compared with standard limits recommended by BIS. The comparative study of ground water to this region, all the collected water samples are not suitable for drinking purpose, because in this region ground water samples had excess of manganese, calcium, magnesium and iron content.
A total of 20 groundwater samples were col-lected from both dug and bore wells of southern Tiruchi-rappalli district and analyzed for various hydrogeochemical parameters. The analyzed physicochemical parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, bicarbonate, carbonate, sulfate, chloride, nitrate, and fluoride are used to characterize the groundwater quality and its suitability for drinking and irrigational uses. The results of the chemical analysis indicates that the groundwater in the study area is slightly alkaline and mainly contains Na ? , Ca 2? , and Mg 2? cations as well as HCO 3 2-, Cl -, SO 4 2-and NO 3 -anions. The total dissolved solids mainly depend on the concen-tration of major ions such as Ca, Mg, Na, K, HCO 3 , Cl, and SO 4 . Based on TDS, 55 % of the samples are suitable for drinking and rest of the samples are unsuitable for drinking. The total hardness indicates that majority of the ground-water samples are found within the permissible limit of WHO. The dominant hydrochemical facies for groundwater are Ca–Mg–Cl, Ca–HCO 3 , and Ca–Cl type. The USSL graphical geochemical representation of groundwater quality suggests that majority of the water samples belongs to high medium salinity with low alkali hazards. The Gibb's plot indicates that the groundwater chemistry of the study area is mainly controlled by evap-oration and rock–water interaction. Spearman's correlation and factor analysis were used to distinguish the statistical relation between different ions and contamination source in the study area.
Assessment of groundwater quality in Tirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu,
The quality of groundwater sample collected from 35 representative wells in rural area of Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu. A total of 16 physico-chemical characteristics were analysed. A systematic correlation and regression study showed significant liner relationship among different pairs of groundwater quality parameters. TDS shows good correlation with Magnesium Hardness (0.847), Calcium Hardness (0.929), Chloride Hardness (0.971) and Total Hardness (0.929) but poor correlation with CO3, HCO and DO.
Water quality parameters of ground water samples in Tamilnadu, Kerela and Pondicherry
A systematic study has been carried out to explore the Physico-chemical characteristics of groundwater in five different areas in south India. Water sample from open wells in various districts of south India were collected and analyzed for PH, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, total hardness and total alkalinity. Comparative studies of samples in five different district were conducted, it shows Kochi water have low hardness comparatively than Tamilnadu and Kerela districts water. It was also analyzed that electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, PH, alkalinity. From this, we concluded the Kochi water is best than the many districts of Tamilnadu and Kerela.

Ariyalur is an administrative in the state of Tamil Nadu. Many industries like cement and mining industries are located in and around this area. A total of 16 groundwater samples were collected in and around the sendhurai taluk during the year may 2015. The samples were analysed for physico-chemical parameters such as pH, Electrical Conductivity, Total dissolved solids, Dissolved oxygen, Total Hardness, Biological Oxygen Demand, Chemical Oxygen Demand, Calcium, Magnesium, Chloride and Nitrate. On comparing the results against drinking quality standards said by the WHO (2003). It was found that the some of the groundwater quality parameters were above the limit. Thus an attempt has been made to find the quality of groundwater in around sendhurai taluk unsuitable for drinking purpose.

Groundwater is an essential source of water due to its substantial use of domestic, irrigation and industrial purpose. The present study was pointed to examine the groundwater quality of groundwater in premonsoon and post-monsoon seasons on the year of 2013 at Pennagaram block of Dharmapuri district, Tamilnadu. A few groundwater samples of the study area were analyzed for their physico-chemical parameters (APHA, 1998). The spatial distribution map provides a clear explanation for hydrochemical characteristics of groundwater quality for domestic and irrigational purpose in both the seasons. The results of showed the most of the groundwater samples in the study area showed that the pH is slightly acidic to alkaline in nature. The TDS and EC content of the samples in PRM and POM were measured and found 80% of the samples within the WHO limit (1500 mg/L). The water constituents are highly adjustable with respect to cationic and anionic constituents. However, to summarize the average of cations is Ca 2+ ˃ Na + ˃ Mg 2+ ˃ K + and anions are Cl-> HCO3 > SO4 > NO3 > F. The spatial analysis output indicates that in some stations there is need for some degree of treatment for groundwater in the study area before consumption.
GROUNDWATER QUALITY INVESTIGATION IN KEERAMANGALAM AREA, ALANGUDI TALUK, PUDUKKOTTAI DISTRICT

A study on geochemical characterization of ground water and its suitability for drinking and irrigation purposes was carried out in the Keramangalam area, Alangudi taluk, Pudukkottai district, Tamilnadu. Twenty-one groundwater samples were collected from bore wells and open wells during post monsoon (April 2008). The ground water samples have been analysed by various quality parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity (EC), Total dissolved solids (TDS). The water chemistry of various ions viz. Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+, HCO 3-, Cl-, SO4-, and PO4-are carried out. The results were evaluated in detail and compared with (WHO, 1984). The chemical composition of the ground water is controlled by rock water interaction with sandstone, clay and Archaean to Proterozoic deposits. The chemical quality was evaluated for drinking use following the guidelines of WHO. Groundwater is potable except in some isolated pockets. It is inferred from Piper trilinear diagram suggest that the groundwater quality is characterized by mainly belongs to alkaline earth exceeding alkalies. As per USSL classification of water quality mostly it falls under C3S1 category. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Hydrochemistry of Groundwater According to the chemical composition of ground water of the study area shown in Tables I. All the parameters were compared with guidelines suggested by WHO (1984). The pH of an aqueous solution controlled by interrelated chemical reaction that produce or consume hydrogen ions (Hem, 1985).
