DEVELOPMENT OF A SYSTEM MODEL FOR HOME AUTOMATION

Home automation system introduces a computerization or automation of some electrical and electronic systems. This system includes complete automation of lights, temperature control, door security, etc. In this paper, a hardware system is developed and installed to monitor and control various home appliances. It can control the appliances based on its configuration. This system automatically turns on lights at a specified time in the evening. It can measure light intensity in a room by using hardware sensor and turn on bulb when light intensity becomes low. The system can allow a person to control appliances from a remote location by internet.

Home appliances can be remotely be controlled using home automation system and makes it easily to accessed and effectively controlled. With the use of telecommunication device like mobile phone, computer and electronic technology electrical appliance can be controlled from any part of the world. The main reasons for home automation system are to make peoples’ lives easy, greater amount of energy will be saved and driven more by technology. Among others, home automation systems available are either based on Bluetooth technology, ZigBee technology, Infrared Remote (IR) controller, Radio Frequency (RF) technology. Though these systems are good, unfortunately, they can work effectively from a distance of (100 meters maximum) automation within a particular locality. This pose a big challenge/risk of electrical disaster to people outside their vicinities that mistakenly left their appliances ON/OFF, as the case may be, and could also lead to energy to wastage for appliances left connected to the mains for a period longer than required. Hence the need for effective means of remotely controlling home appliances beyond one's vicinity. This brought about the prose project for home automation using Arduino and GSM module (SIM900). The system uses SMS to send commands in order to remotely turn ON and OFF electrical devices. The system development involves the implementation of different hardware modules such as power supply, GSM, microcontroller, relays, and loads which make up the system as well as programming the system controller.

Home Automation System

The home automation is one of the most emerging trends in modernization of home appliance control. Presently, conventional wall switches are located in different parts of the house and one has to physically go near them and press them to turn the loads on/off. It becomes very difficult for the elderly or physically handicapped people to do so. This system is designed to provide control of home appliances remote and via Bluetooth Android based Smart phone app. The proposed system does not require a dedicated server PC with respect to similar systems and offers a novel communication protocol to monitor and control the home environment with more than just the these devices can be controlled through a web application or via Bluetooth Android based Smart phone app. The proposed system does not require a dedicated server PC with respect to similar systems and offers a novel communication protocol to monitor and control the home environment with more than just the switching functionality. To demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of this system, devices such as light switches, temperature sensor, gas sensor and motion sensors have been integrated with the proposed home control system. This paper presents a low cost and flexible home control and environmental monitoring system.

This paper presents a design and prototype implementation of new home automation system that uses WiFi technology as a network infrastructure connecting its parts. The proposed system consists of two main components; the first part is the server (web server), which presents system core that manages, controls, and monitors users' home. Users and system administrator can locally (LAN) or remotely (internet) manage and control system code. Second part is hardware interface module, which provides appropriate interface to sensors and actuator of home automation system. Unlike most of available home automation system in the market the proposed system is scalable that one server can manage many hardware interface modules as long as it exists on WiFi network coverage.

M2M Wireless communication of various machines and devices in mobile networks is a fast growing business and application area in industry, maintenance business, customer service, security and banking areas. This paper presents design and implementation of remote control system by means of GSM cellular communication network. The design integrates the device to be controlled, the microcontroller, and the GSM module so that it can be used for a wide range of applications. Detailed description and implementation of each design element are presented. To verify the principle operation of the M2M design, two home applications are experimentally tested using PC-based environment 1 .

The past and the glorious future of Home Automation is becoming more practical than just popular due to its numerous advantages. This paper aims at designing a basic home automation system that can be monitored and accessed remotely worldwide which is convenient and secure, cost-effective, along with providing flexibility, scalability, effectiveness, and portability. The technology incorporates Raspberry Pi and the web server comprising a two-way communication to exchange electric charges as well as information to maximize the system's efficiency. The web page and the switches provided on the web page help us control the information. The data containing information about the control commands are transferred between the endpoints of communication using TCP (Transmission Control Protocol). The control system mentioned herein provides the liberty to control appliances from remote locations connected through Ethernet. A novel embedded system has been designed and implemented on Raspberry Pi and a small-scale prototype is developed and tested. The system is much more secure than all the previous systems because researchers are using dynamic IP (Internet Protocol) addresses. Thus, the appropriate usage of WSNs (Wireless Sensor Networks) lowers the rate of failures and the overall cost of the system while increasing the productivity & efficiency of automation operations. The main objective of the present work is to design a smart home using various sensors which can be controlled and monitored by the Raspberry Pi via the IoT (Internet of Things). This helps homeowners utilize a simple, fast and reliable way to automate their environment.

Home Automation Systems -A Study

With the increase in consumption of energy and population, there is a grave need to conserve energy in every way possible. The inability to access and control the appliances from remote locations is one of the major reasons for energy loss. A web or an android application is used by the users to give instructions to these systems. This system can make use of a host of communication methods such as Wi-Fi, GSM, Bluetooth, ZigBee. Different controlling devices and configurations can be found in existing systems. Such systems have been found already in many places for a wide variety of applications. This paper presents a survey of all such systems.

Home automation system is a system that controls by the smart device using a mobile application. It can control home appliances such as light, fans, air conditions, and smart security locks, etc. Bluetooth or wi-fi technology will be used to control things remotely. Many people were thinking about that technology is taking a really huge part of our lives. It does! we’re living in a modern generation where smart and intelligent systems are necessary to be there wherever we are to make our lives easier and much better, for example, we can do many things faster, better, and more accurate.

AN ARTICLE ON HOME AUTOMATION SYSTEM

One of the primary motivations for the design of smart homes in the 21 st century is to create a more relaxed domestic living environment suitable for a working class society laden with hectic office hours and also to reduce the amount of human dependency for the aging population. In the paper, we design, test and propose the implementation of a remote automated switching system for home electrically controlled appliances. The system implements a clocking algorithm there by automating the switching processes. A usability evaluation of the system reveals positive results over the traditional methods.
