Security Issues and Attacks in Wireless Sensor Network

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is an emerging technology that consists of spatially distributed autonomous sensors to monitor physical or environmental conditions. These networks are useful in several applications such as health monitoring, wildlife monitoring, area monitoring, traffic monitoring, emergencies, environmental control, industrial quality control, distributed robotics, military command, intelligent commutations, examining human heart rates etc. Security is a fundamental requirement for these types of networks. This paper addresses the physical attacks and issues on WSN because these types of networks are more vulnerable. Through this review, investigate the security related issues in wireless sensor networks; identify the purpose of attackers and countermeasures against the threats to handle attacks.

SECURITY ISSUES, ATTACKS AND CHALLENGES IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK

Wireless Sens or Networks (WSN) is an emerging technology now - a - days and has a wide range of applications such as battlefield surveillance, traffic surveillance, forest fire detection, flood detection etc. But wireless sensor networks are susceptible to a variety of pot ential attacks which obstructs the normal operation of the network. The wireless sensor network nature of communication is unprotected and unsafe because of deployment in hostile environment, limited resources, an automated nature and untrusted broadcast t ransmission media. The most of security techniques are not sufficient in WSN network and security is a vital requirement for network. The intent of this paper is to investigate the security related issues, attacks and Challenges. The introductory sectio n gives brief information on the WSN components and its architecture. Then it deals with some of the major security issues and challenges over wireless sensor networks (WSNs).

SECURITY ATTACKS IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK

A feasible network can be consist of small, inexpensive sensor with several attributes due to development of software, hardware and its technology. Wireless Sensor Networks are rapidly gaining interests of researchers from emerging technology, industry and defense. Security is one of major issues for wireless sensor networks (WSN) because of various their vital situations. This thesis explores security issues in wireless sensor networks security (WSNs), it is vital that the Sensor network technologies involved become sufficiently mature and robust against Malicious attack to be trustworthy. The inclusion of wireless communication technology also incurs various types of security threats. The intent of this paper is to investigate the security related issues, the challenges and to propose some solutions to secure the WSN against these security threats. While the set of challenges in sensor networks are diverse, this paper focus only on the challenges related to the security of Wireless Sensor Network. This paper begins by introducing the concept of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). The introductory section gives brief information on the WSN components and its architecture. Then it deals with some of the major security issues over wireless sensor networks (WSNs). This paper also proposes some of the security goal for Wireless Sensor Network. Further, as security being vital to the acceptance and use of sensor networks for many applications; I have made an in depth threat analysis of Wireless Sensor Network. Lastly it proposes some security mechanisms against these threats in Wireless Sensor Network.

— Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a new technology being developed and expanded. Wireless sensor network (WSN) is formed by a large number of sensor nodes with limited resources and low cost. WSN restrictions make it vulnerable to attacks. These limitations include Low processing power, low memory, being in enemy territory without protection, limited connectivity and functionality and low power consumption. While wireless sensor systems are useful in many things, one must admit that in the case of system attacks, they are more vulnerable than wired systems. Today one of the most important challenges facing wireless sensor networks is the security issue. As a result, the effective security mechanism is necessary. The emergence of sensor networks as one of the dominant technology trends in the coming decades has posed numerous unique challenges to researchers.
