The concern for health and safety is legitimate in every context of human enterprise. In schools, for teaching staff’s safety to be guaranteed, the equipment available should be properly maintained and installation for non-existent ones done according to the health and safety policies. With a focus on Mbooni West district, this paper reports the findings of a survey which focused on the health and safety of teachers in secondary schools in the region. Many secondary school administrators do not consider teaching staff’s involvement in recommending policies and procedures in curbing safety hazards. This makes it difficult for the teaching staff to take responsibility for their own safety. The paper is on teachers work safety as a roadmap to quality service delivery in secondary schools in Rivers State. The paper utilize qualitative technique method for the analysis of data. Data were sourced from secondary sources such as textbooks, journals and the internet. The concept of work safety was defined as protection from various forms of work hazard. The forms of work threat facing secondary school teachers were highlighted such as bullying, sexual harassment, deprivation of human rights etc. The implications of teacher’s threat at work were identified such as absenteeism, depression, classroom disorderliness. The contributions of teachers work safety to learning in secondary schools were identified. The methods of enhancing teachers work safety in secondary schools within the state such as school plant planning, setting rules and regulations etc. were discussed. The paper concludes that teachers work safety is important for quality service delivery in secondary schools in the state. It was recommended that teachers unions should be established in secondary schools and teachers should also be educated on work safety measures in secondary schools within the state.
A Survey on Occupational Safety and Health Awareness Among School Teachers in Kelantan, Malaysia

Nowadays, more accident cases reported in school cause not only injuries, but also deaths. This indicates that the importance of safety and health measures in school should be exposed not only to students but most importantly to teachers who will be guiding and providing safety and health culture in school. This paper is based on the study that was motivated by the increasing reports of accidents in school. The objective of the study was to measure the understanding regarding safety and health among school teachers in Kelantan by distributing questionnaires consist of ten District Education Offices (PPD) in Kelantan, Malaysia. The results show that most of the respondents understand about safety and health matters with the importance of implementing safety and health in school. In conclusion, further study on workplace assessment need to be conducted at school to identify the implementation of safety and health among school community.

Introduction: School can be considered as a relatively moderate risk working environment due to the various hazards assembled in the school. Safety at workplace is an issue that has been growing in the social context and is becoming an increasing concern of many parties that call for the need of actions to prevent injuries and other sort of dangerous situations. Occupational Safety Practices and Implementation in Primary Schools, Perak, Malaysia

Background: This study was carried out to assess the implementation of occupational safety and practices at all the primary schools in LMS district, Perak, Malaysia. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional study was carried at 102 schools (91.9% responsed) out of 111 schools in LMS district. A self-administered questionnaires form was used to ask about the safety knowledge, practices and implementation in the school. Results: The data analysis shows that overall occupational safety programmes and implementation are considered shallow. Safety coordinators knowledge on occupational safety legislation (75.5%) were poor due to less courses attended (80.4%). Even though safety programmes only focus on fire safety drill but majority of the respondent did not know how to use the fire extinguisher (62.7%). Many schools did not have fire exit signage (86.4%). Besides that, 76.5% of schools did not have qualified first aider. Almost half of the schools did not have any personnel protective equipment for pupil's usage. Conclusion: As a conclusion, implementation and practices of occupational safety in all the primary schools are still lacking and need to be improved.
Safety awareness among pre-service teachers of technical and vocational education in Malaysia

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the level of safety awareness among pre-service teachers in technical and vocational education. This study focus on tools and equipment arrangement, uses of personal protective devices and years of study in the program in regards to safety awareness. This study utilized survey that was administered to 196 samples of technical and vocational pre-service teachers in Malaysia. The findings shows mean of safety awareness, tools and equipment arrangement are moderate among pre-service teachers. Meanwhile, finding shows that there are significant differences of safety awareness between pre-service teachers’ years of study

This study investigated safety management for service delivery in secondary schools in Rivers State. Three research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. The study was guided by Theory of Foundation for Safety Management. The study adopted a descriptive survey design comprising all the 247 government senior secondary schools in the state with 6,890 principals and teachers. A sample size of 2,100 respondents was drawn using stratified random sampling technique representing 30.5% of the population. This included 110 principals and 1,990 teaching staff. The instrument used was questionnaire titled "Safety Management of Secondary Schools' Questionnaire (SMSSQ)" developed by the researchers. The questionnaire was validated and the reliability calculated with Pearson's Product Moment Correlation yielded an index of 0.81. Mean scores and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions. Abstract-This study investigated safety management for service delivery in secondary schools in Rivers State. The findings revealed among others that the techniques needed for safety management of secondary schools include: establishment of clear safety objectives, transparency in the management of safety, senior management's commitment to improve safety in schools, accountability of safety management system for educational service delivery, establishment of defined methods needed to meet safety goals in schools, building upon the existing procedures to create new knowledge on safety management, and continuous process of improvement in the safety level among staff. Based on the findings, it was recommended that secondary school management should adopt the safety management objectives to protect the health and safety of staff and students. School managers should establish defined methods needed to meet the health and safety goals in secondary schools.
The Management of Safety in Schools in The State of Perak, Malaysia

This study was conducted to ascertain the management of safety in secondary schools located in the Northern Kinta District, Perak. The aspects of school safety studied were social dimension and physical dimension. This study was also conducted to find out whether a significant relationship existed between the social dimension and physical dimension towards school safety. The study sample consisted of teachers who had undergone the Higher Order Thinking Skills (KBAT) Course for Lower Secondary and a questionnaire was utilised as the study instrument. The data collected was then analysed to ascertain the practices, effects, limitations and findings from the school safety management programme which had been conducted for 11 years. The data was analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 20.0 and also using descriptive analysis in the form of percentages and frequencies. The findings showed that 6 factors had a significant co-relational relationship (Truancy, Fights, Classroom safety, Workshop safety, Laboratory Safety and Fire Safety) and only two factors were not significant (Bullying and Co-curriculum activities safety). The R2 value was moderate at .482 which showed that the 48.2% change in school safety was due to the eight independent variables. This showed that there was a significant relationship between the social dimension and physical dimension. As such, the study findings showed that the safety practices were important in influencing the study environment at school especially for the students as they needed to feel safe from any disruption or risks of accident.
