Strengthening Sharia Economy Through Halal Industry Development in Indonesia

Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world, with more than 87% of the total Muslim populations. This quantity is a promising market share, including products and services. The purpose of this study is to examine the prospect of halal industries in supporting the development of Islamic economics in Indonesia. The study employs a normative juridical method by using secondary data. The results of the study show that halal industry markets, such as food, tourism, fashion, and medicine sectors, can be capital in Islamic economic development in Indonesia. One of the efforts of the Indonesian government in encouraging Islamic economy development is by developing & incorporating sustainable halal values in the Indonesian Islamic economic masterplan in 2019-2024. The process of issuing halal certification for products and services requires at least three parties, namely the Halal Product Assurance Agency, the Indonesian Ulama Council, and the Halal Inspection Agency. This is in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 33 the Year 2014 on Halal Product Assurance. To support the Islamic economy through the halal industry, Indonesia is expected to be able to maximize local wisdom in maximizing global market opportunities.

Potential of halal industry areas to improve national economic growth

Industrial Revolution Era 4.0 is a new era of industrialization, where Indonesia can further maximize the potential of Natural Resources (NR) and Human Resources (HR) owned. The halal industry is one of the most promising industries in the global market. The large Muslim population in Indonesia is a driving factor that creates great opportunities for the halal industry's growth to improve the national economy. In addition, Indonesia has successfully raised its ranking in the world halal market, ranging from the food sector, Islamic finance, cosmetics, medicines to halal tourism. This shows that Indonesia has great potential to be a major producer and player in the world halal market. Therefore, to realize this target, Indonesia needs to establish a halal industrial area. The concept of a halal industrial area is formed from an existing area. However, with adequate facilities and systems to produce halal products following the Halal Product Guarantee (HPG). The development of this area is intended so that the impact and benefits of the existence of the halal industry can be managed to the maximum with one management group so that it will be more efficient in its operations. Th e urgency of the halal industry area is to maximize the potential of the halal industry as well as the opportunity to become a major producer in the global halal market so as to increase national economy.

The Effect of Halal Lifestyle on Economic Growth in Indonesia

The halal lifestyle has become a trend for the global community and Indonesia, which incidentally has a Muslim majority population. The total expenditure spent by the Indonesians on halal products in 2017 was USD 218.8 billion. It can be stated that halal product is such a good business, especially in Indonesia. For this reason, this study aims to determine whether the halal lifestyle, Islamic banking, halal tourism, and halal food sector could increase Indonesia's economic growth. Several sources, such as books, articles, journals, and journal papers, were used for this paper. This study found that the halal lifestyle in the sharia banking, halal tourism, and halal food sector positively affected Indonesia's economic growth.

Challenges in Developing Integrated Halal Industry in Indonesia

This study aims to determine the opinions and recommendations of experts regarding the problems of the integrated halal industry in Indonesia to determine the priority of the most important variables to be fixed first. This research was conducted in September 2020 using primary data obtained from interviews of experts consisting of academics, practitioners and regulators with a background in sharia economics. The data were analyzed by the Delphi method to find the main priority and agreed upon convergence by experts. The results showed that of the 6 criteria for integrated halal industry problems in Indonesia, there are 22 variables with convergent-convergent consensus based on expert opinion and only 2 variables with Divergent consensus. The 3 main priority problems of the integrated halal industry in Indonesia along with the problems in the sub-criteria are (1) Regulation & Policy: Implementation, (2) Information Technology & Services: Accessibility, (3) Public Awareness: Socialization. This research can be used by readers to make improvements in the halal industry system in Indonesia with priorities according to the findings of this study. This research is the first research to comprehensively calculate the expert's assessment regarding the integrated halal industry problem in Indonesia using the Delphi method and its priority recommendations.

Is Indonesia Destined to Become the World's Market for Halal Products

This study aims to discover and analyse the existence of MSMEs in Indonesia in the world's Halal products and Services market. As a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia can become one of the largest markets in the world. As indicated in the Global Islamic Economic Report (GIER), Indonesia is one of the top ten countries that control the Islamic economic market, yet it fails to dominate its own Islamic market. Accordingly, the government needs to play a stronger role through regulatory policies to encourage the development of the Islamic economic ecosystem in Indonesia (halal value chain). The researchers have conducted normative juridical research with the analytical descriptive method by collecting, describing, analysing and presenting what is (das sein) and what ought to be (das sollen). The conclusion of this study shows that the quadruple helix innovation system can guarantee the development of MSMEs to achieve a high level of competitiveness-efficiency and effectiveness of the products and services produced.

Halal Industry in Indonesia; Challenges and Opportunities

The global halal industry has shown significant development, and Indonesia has become one of the countries with great potential. This study aims to identify opportunities and challenges in developing the halal industry in Indonesia. This research uses a qualitative approach. Data sources used in the form of secondary data, which comes from library sources—technical analysis of data using the SWOT analysis approach. The results showed that the development of the halal industry in Indonesia included several sectors, namely the food and beverage sector, tourism, fashion, media and recreation, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, and renewable energy. Halal Industry and Islamic Banking: A Study of Halal Ecosystem Regulation in Indonesia

Halal industry lately is developing rapidly throughout the needs of the community. Indonesia is one of the world's largest halal product markets because it has favourable demographic conditions. Regulations on the submission of halal products in Indonesia itself have not led to the use of Islamic financial institutions in terms of the certification assessment. The stronger the legal basis of halal agencies, the more guaranteed halal products circulating in the community. As Indonesia is a country with a majority of Muslim population in the world, its products such as food, beverage, medicine and cosmetics that are produced and circulated should not be doubted about its halal status. However, with the rise of products containing haram ingredients as well as imported products that are not guaranteed as halal, it is necessary that the government establish an agency administering guaranteed halal products, moreover as we entered the era of global trade and the issue that government will legalize alcohol. After conducting a comparative study toward halal institutions in Europe, America and Asia, it is known that halal agencies sheltered under the government shows better performance than private institutions that do not have a strong legal basis.
