A Clinical Case Simulation Tool for Medical Education

The human being, even if potentially inclined to learn, needs incentives to do it effectively. In these context, the virtual environments could simulate challenges of clinical practice and, at the same time, consider the personal experiences, allows the student's stimulus and also offer additional theoretical content updated and of excellent quality. The purpose of the project is to develop a Clinical Case Simulation Tool (CCST), it´s supposed to be a supporter to the acquisition of clinical skills for medical education. This is an experimental study of applied technology for health education. The project is multidisciplinary between health sciences, computing and education. The development of an application to store real clinical cases is the starting point of this study. The structure of the proposed clinical case comprises the description of the case, clinical history, complementary tests, questions and further reading. The access to the application is password protected, composed of access profiles with specific characteristics such as teacher, coordinator, student. All clinical cases are linked to a specific college and discipline. The Clinical Cases simulator platform was created for storage of clinical cases and to provide technological support for preparing courses, workshops and support classroom teaching. This may be considered as an innovative approach, given the use of a digital system that enables the storage of clinical data and laboratory tests, as sounds of cardiac auscultation, pulmonary auscultation, images and videos.
Simulation of Medical Consultation on Virtual Patient
In this paper, the modeling of virtual patient in medical e-learning is presented. The goal of this research is to allow medicine students to practice problem-based learning by simulating a medical consultation, using the current pedagogical methods based on clinical cases and integrating web technology methods. The environment is composed of a set of cooperative platform independent tools that allows students to simulate a consultation at distance on a virtual patient that can be designed easily by the teacher. Using multimedia data exchange, the simulation is more realistic than a face-to-face simulation. Information can be shared between students and teacher in multimedia various forms like text, audio, video, and whiteboard.
Introduction of Clinical, Simulation-Based Software for Medical Sciences Teachings

Introduction -Simulation is the gold standard for training in aviation and trauma medicine. Now it is available for diseases diagnosis and treatment. With simulation, clinicians can practice their art in a realistic, consequence free environment, combining both theory and practice in a comprehensive program. Method and materials -In the virtual clinical environment of "VPsoft mentor" software, the practitioner reviews a patient's history, orders laboratory tests and procedures, interprets findings, renders diagnoses, and prescribes medication. Every diagnostic or treatment decision the clinician makes for the patient is analyzed by E-mentor, providing instant feedback.Results -This software have been used in our academic centre in Arak, as part of residency evidence based learning in a schedule of the small group teaching which, by comparing two groups of case and control, we detected meaningful differences in the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) evaluation scores between them.Discussion / Conclusion -Expert systems-based virtual patient simulation shows promise as a mechanism for assessing practitioner skill, detecting skill gaps and for electronic mentoring. Using CD-based clinical simulations it is possible to augment clinical sciences training globally at low cost with high clinician acceptance, kin order to track improvement over time.

Background The collaborative clinical simulation (CCS) model is a structured method for the development and assessment of clinical competencies through small groups working collaboratively in simulated environments. From 2016 onward, the CCS model has been applied successfully among undergraduate and graduate medical students from the Universidad de Talca, Chile; the Universität de Barcelona, Spain; and the Universidad de Vic-Manresa, Spain. All the templates for building the clinical cases and the assessment instruments with CCS were printed on paper. Considering the large number of CCS sessions and the number of participating students that are required throughout the medical degree curriculum, it is impossible to keep an organized record when the instruments are printed on paper. Funded as part of the 'Network Enabled Platforms' program the Health Services Virtual Organization (HSVO) Project has developed a network-enabled platform (NEP) consisting of a messaging specification, a collection of devices, a bus interface architecture and a middleware hub (SAVOIR) that can support the authoring execution and tracking of multiple independent and integrated simulation activities. The HSVO NEP allows web devices to be coordinated, to talk to each other, to control each other, to use services from elsewhere, to use each other as services. This means that instructors and learners can have access to any services and devices at any time and location thereby supporting both scheduled and on-demand practice or instruction.

Clinical practicum is a major component in nursing education. Students are able to apply their classroom learning to the actual care setting. The clinical practicum setting must provide an authentic environment where students can maximize learning opportunities and demonstrate knowledge, skills, and attitude in caring for patients. Herein lies the challenge. The real world setting and timing may not be enough for students to learn the many complex tasks demanded as course outcomes and expected competencies. Designing an electronic medical case simulator for health professional education
This paper describes an implementation of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) which has been adapted for the purposes of teaching health professional students, including medical and nursing students. Off-the-shelf EMR software, while suited for physicians in practice settings does not completely satisfy the needs of these students and educators. There are many unique requirements of a teaching EMR compared to one used in a production environment. This paper describes the specific architecture and unique features of an EMR that was employed in the University of British Columbia Medical School teaching program in December, 2007 with 200 participating medical students distributed across three physical sites in the Province of British Columbia.

This paper aims to present various learning environments and simulation examples for medical purposes in the world. More than ever, medical students and healthcare professionals are faced with floods of data of which the relevant information has to be selected and applied. The internet and the new media are a fertile ground to meet these requirements. More and more physicians accept e-learning as a new tool and an attractive adjunct to the traditional face-to-face teaching in medicine. Simulation allows significant exploration of multiple options, without spending enormous amounts of money on staff, training, equipment and, most importantly, without risking possible degradation in the level of healthcare. This paper describes the success stories in simulation in health care and describes the most important benefits for all parties of the simulation and learning environments in health sciences.
