We have carried out a three-part study comparing the research performance of Indian institutions with that of other international institutions. In the first part, the publication profiles of various Indian institutions were examined and ranked based on the h-index and p-index. We found that the institutions of national importance contributed the highest in terms of publications and citations per institution. In the second part of the study, we looked at the publication profiles of various Indian institutions in the high-impact journals and compared ...

Nephrology is one the complicated diseases of the human body. This paper tries to focus on the research performance of the Indian Scientists in terms of Nephrology literature which were indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) from the Web of Science (WoS) bibliometric database. This article has made an attempt to observe various elements in terms of yearly growth, author productivity, document, language, institution, geographical, most productive keywords, collaborative index (CI), degree of collaboration (DC) and many more characteristic features during the study period.
DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology
This paper attempts to analyse the growth and development of science and technology (S&T) activities in India, as reflected in publication output covered by Science Citation Index (SCI) during 1990-2004. The Indian scientists published a total of 1,82,111 papers in SCI covered journals during the above period. The present study analyses the broad features of Indian S&T by focusing on its publication growth characteristics, language, format and media of communication, research quality, institutional productivity, patterns of research collaboration, and broad and narrow subject areas of interests of Indian institutions and scientists. A broad comparison of India's research output with select countries, particularly with China, has also been made.
A Scientometric Analysis of S&T Publications Output by India during 1985-2002
DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology
The paper analyses India's publications output in three major international multidisciplinary databases, as indexed during 1981-2005. It reports on India's comparative strength in world science and technology (S&T) output, its growth and decline, its strong and weak subject areas of research, media of communication, its collaborative profile and quality of S&T output, institutional productivity and quality, and dynamics of Indian research at institutional and sectoral levels. The study also provides suggestions for improving the quantity and quality of research S&T in India.
Top 10 Indian Academic/Research Organizations: A Scientometric Analysis of Research in Biotechnology
Library Philosophy and Practice, 2018
Scientometric study is an effective assessment tool for ongoing researches in a given field. It applies mathematical and statistical methods to study the use of documents and patterns of publication. Present work attempts to describe the patterns of publication by top ten Indian Academic/Research Organizations in the field of Biotechnology. Overall, 5423 articles were related to the field in Scopus database during 2001-2016. The applied scientometric tools are Collaboration Coefficient, Co-authorship Index and Activity Index to study the trend of authorship and collaborative research activities in the given domain. The activity Index formula has been modified for the mapping of Institute data. The most preferred country for international collaboration was United States.
Medicine Research in India: A Scientometric Assessment of Publications during
The purpose of this paper is to qualitative analyse of medicine research output using select scientometric indicators with the aim of identifying top preparing countries, subject subthemes, organisations, authors and journals in the area. The present study has examined 29153 publications in medicine research, the present study deals with the Assessment of Indian medicine research output as reflected in Web of Science (WOS) database for the period 2009 to 2018 for identifying the research output in the field of medicine literature. It also provides a comparative evaluation and performance of different types of scientometric indicators, such as number of publications, number of citations, relative growth, doubling time, activity index and collaboration from India. The Indian medicine research has increased exponentially over the last decade.
A Bibliometric Study on Growth of Research in an Indian Medical
2015
IntroductionBibliometric statistics are used by institutions of higher education to evaluate the research quality and productivity of their faculty. With bibliometric indicators, such as gross totals of publications and citations and journal impact factors gives the consideration of tenure, promotion and reappointment decision at an individual level (Borgman & Furner 2002, Garfield 1983 part1, 2, Cronin & Atkins 2000, Epstein 2004, Maunder 2007). At the departmental, institutional, or national level, bibliometrics inform funding decisions (Borgman & Furner 2002, Murphy 1998, Lewison 1999), develop benchmarks (Borgman & Furner 2002, Noyons et al. 1999), and identify institutional strengths (Borgman & Furner 2002, Huang et al 2006, Schummer 2007), collaborative research (Borgman & Furner 2002, Garfield 1993), and emerging areas of research (Borgman & Furner 2002, Hinze 1994, Leydesdorff et al. 1994). Due to the important organizational and personnel decisions made from these analyses,...

Objectives: Nephrology is one the complicated diseases of the human body. This study tries to focus the scholarly communications of Nephrology which were indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) from the Web of Science (WoS) bibliometric database and to observe various elements in terms of yearly growth, author productivity, document, language, institution, geographical, most productive keywords, collaborative index (CI), degree of collaboration (DC) and many more characteristic features during the study period. Method: The data were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection database by using the keywords as topic 'Nephrology' and refined by 'countries /Territories' (India) and the time span from 2011 to 2016 indexed in SCI-Expanded. All the records during the period of study have been downloaded completely from the Web of Science online database. The researcher has applied percentage analysis and average score analysis as the basic tools. Apart from the above the specific bibliometric statistical tools such as Collaborative index, Degree of Collaboration, R 2 value and Mean, Standard Deviation, C.V and softwares such as HistCite, VOS Viewer have also been applied. Results:The study revealed that the degree of collaboration ranges from 0.79 to 0.91 and the average degree of collaboration is 0.86. The American Journal of Kidney Diseases was ranked first (global citation score) 1101 (5.5%), The Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation is in the second rank (global citation score) 765 (5.5%). The results showed that the range of collaborative index is from 0.15 to 0.19 between 2011 and 2016. The maximum range of collaborative index is 0.19 in 2011. USA has been placed with 845 research output and the percentage rate is 32.2 and also the global citation score is 5306 and has got the first place based on the record count and followed by Italy. Conclusion: Scientometric analysis computes to a scientific publication which has highlighted the contribution of institutions, journals, and individual researchers. It can be concluded that the highest (19.5%) number of papers was published in 2014. The USA has maximum number of literature output, and ranked the first. The percentage of multi-authored research output was more than that of single-authored. The pattern of collaborative index was evaluated and the maximum range of collaborative index was 0.19 in the years 2011 respectively. It is concluded that the scholarly communications in Nephrology have been increasing year by year at a substantial rate. This scientometric study will help to identify the relevant journals of subscription for health science librarians to provide effective service to the user community.
