Abstract
An examination of politcal rhetoric and rhetorical strategy during the Second Party Era in New York, 1828 to 1854. This thesis analyses the way in which rhetorical strategy attempted to create political identities for a broad spectrum of politicians of varying beliefs. In addition, it considers how the inherent weaknesses of these strategies contributed to the end of the Second Party Era.
