People are moving at an unprecedented pace in an accelerating lifetime, without enjoying life. It will be a more sensitive way to follow an environmentally conscious, self-conscious, self-reflexive and authentic lifestyle. Therefore, it is a moral, ethical and political determinant in the displacement of "speed or tempo factor" in the sightings that people have agreed upon (Molz, 2009). People want to go back to the past and slow down their pace of life. Staycation refers to a neo-concept, a neologism corresponding to a vacation staying at home or near to home. This term was first used in 2003 by Terry Massey (Hay, 2010:, 2). Staycation is a complex cultural phenomenon that targeted middle class families during the summer of 2008. As a holiday offer, especially for families, staycation term was first mentioned in the morning show Good Morning America as a useful parenting strategy for families during a long and arduous summer season, referring to taking staycation photos and videos, keeping off chores, just the same as on holiday and packing the time for nice activities (Sharma, 2009:1). Staycation is a vacation that is spent at one's home or near home, creating a traditional holiday environment while having all that home and one's home ambiance would offer. This shows us that the idea of creating a traditional holiday environment is an important element of staycation (Dixon 2009). In 2010, the report that manifesting destructive economic consequences of the great recession showed that 30% of Americans have turned to staycations. In this process, Americans stayed in their homes to save money, and even in the midst of this tough economic uncertainty, they went even further to change their real estate, cars or equipment to affordable prices (Chalmers, 2013: 42).
The global conjuncture of the world economy, in which the economy is troubled and the fuel prices are rising, has entered a distressed new phase. In the period we live, airlines are asking for extra money for baggage. Such negativities can inevitably lead people to an alternative way, such as spending time at home or near home. This concept has emerged as a substitute for expensive holiday options especially for families with children (Dixon, 2009: 23).
Other similar types of free time activities that have common features with staycation are agrocation (a way of spending free time in which tourists stay in farms in suburban villages and often participate in farm activities), nearcation (a short vacation in which tourists visit places close to their home) daycation (one-day trips around the area organised at weekends and days off work, daycationers do not stay overnight) (Wixon, 2009).
According to the researches carried out, a large part of the travels are made up of the travels of individuals within their own borders. Domestic tourism is services and activities that originate from travels that people have carried out within the borders of their own country. Staycation is a phenomenon that can be evaluated within the context of domestic tourism. The implications will be better understood when these contributions are addressed both at the economic level of the tourist destination and at the national and regional levels. Domestic tourism can accelerate local production and economic development rather than foreign tourism. Domestic tourists are satisfied with their goods and services in terms of quality and quantity in their own country. (Yaşar, 1996).
Staycation, when examined in depth, will show some traces of slow motion. It comes together around these things: slowing down, rethinking ordinary life and changing assumptions. (Petrini & Padovani, 2005: 156). However, there are some doubts about whether staycation will happen in a short period of time, people will not be able to discharge in such a short amount of time, will not have a happy, peaceful holiday, but a lot of people have decided to include or include themselves in the staycation concept It is also found that the guests can be happy in a short period of time with the staycation, and that they have such a potential in this type of holiday and It has been determined that they think they will even have a more comfortable holiday. (Pyke, Hartwell, Blake & Hemingway, 2016).
The aim of the study is to highlight the concept of staycation, a new concept in tourism literature, and to show the effects of changes in the economic conjuncture on people's perceptions of travel, shopping habits, travel preferences and motivations. It is supposed that this paper, prepared in the light of scientific data obtained from some european countries, will be a useful instrument in determining tourist destination demands and tourist motivations.
