The following conclusions are based on
the examination of numerous GIs.
In the quantitative aspect, English is very rich in GI, Russian and
Hebrew GIs follow it. Most GIs are common for three languages, but for
example, there are in English unique GIs about vitality and prosperity, in
Hebrew linked to Pesach.
Due to world globalization, there are many GIs neologisms about
taxes, the stock market, the coronavirus pandemic, that prove the
importance of RIs in modern languages and linguistic culture. Some GIs
have multiple meanings as a green room and acquire recently new
meanings as a green city (city with plants, ecological city, the city with low
coronavirus danger), green(drug), green zone(vegetation, ecological,
economics, ergonomics, coronavirus positive meanings).
RIs had been organized within seven microsystems (Vegetation
chlorophyll color- gardening - agriculture; Health, vitality; Raw, unripe,
unprocessed-fresh-youngness, inexperience- naivety; Environment care;
Approval, permission, positive-safety; Negative emotions (jealousness,
envy)-unhealthiness, malaise - psychoactive substances (alcohol and drugs)-
psychiatric problems; Green object's color) but some GIs, as green-zone,
could belong to several microsystems at the same time due to their multiple
meanings. There green-red antinomy with the meaning of approval -
prohibition, permission - forbidding, positive-negative, danger - safety, no –
yes), is a stable and active used. In some equivalent Russian GIs black or
lack, color are parallel to GIs.
The historical GIs are characterized by polarized connotations (health,
vitality - unhealthiness, malaise), now they acquired earn many positive
connotations associated with the rising stocks, environmental movements,
safety in the era of the coronavirus.
The research results can be used in translation, L2 teaching, the course
of comparative and cultural linguistics, lexicographic, lexicology work.
Further research of the green-blue parallel, other colorative idioms in
comparing GIs, the didactic use of this material in translation, and teaching
L2 for both children and adults is promising.
