— This work deals with the design of an interactive monitoring tool for home-based physical rehabilitation. The software platform includes a video processing stage and the exercise performance evaluation. Image features are extracted by a Kinect v2 sensor and elaborated to return the exercises score. Furthermore the tool provides to physiotherapists a quantitative exercise evaluation of subject's performances. The proposed tool for home rehabilitation has been tested on 5 subjects and 5 different exercises and results are presented. In particular both exercises and relative evaluation indexes were selected by specialists in neurorehabilitation.

Coaches use different tools in order to measure the strenght such dynamometers, contact platforms or force plates. Because of that, the control of the training process became a difficult task, commonly the treatment of this information is difficult and the software is not usable enough. This situation became a barrier in the technology application in sport. The coaches need more than measure, they need easy and useful technological tools and scientific updated knowledge, which help and assess them in the training program. The objective of this paper is presenting a technological tool that is able to carry out two tasks: (1) measure explosive; (2) compare the test results of an athlete with his specific sport performance profile; Tool utilities are presented contextualized in soccer. The explosive force is measure by the sport jumps with and without load, such SJ, CMJ, ABK, DJ and R). Kinetic variables are measured and analysed. The dymanic maximal force is measured by the most widespread weightlifting exercises, squat and bench press. The maximal power, the power curve and symmetry in force generation of lower and upper limbs are the most important variables presented by this technological application. Ail those variables are Eneasured by a 3D force plate and kinematic movement analysis system. A data base is included to compare the physical sport state of the athlete analysed with the performance profile of his sport. There is not a similar product in the market, so this tool will help and assess coaches to control several strength manifestation and the training program, in a objective way; using a unique technological tool, integrating tests and variables of analysis, protocols and sport performance profiles database.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) has been widely studied and a lot of information is available in the literature regarding the immunological, virological, neuroendocrinal and psychiatric aspects of the disease, but its aetiology is still poorly understood. Great attention has also been paid to the alteration of the muscular function caused by CFS. The aim of the present work was to study CFS patients' gait in order to find out objective measures which can better characterize the pathology. Spatial and temporal parameters of gait were collected from a group of 12 CFS informed volunteers by using the typical instrumentation of movement analysis, and raw data were statistically elaborated. Comparisons with reference data from a population of healthy subjects revealed significant abnormalities in the symmetry indices of the bilateral parameters and in the linear relationships among parameters, and between these parameters and the physical characteristics of the patients. Interestingly, the abnormalities were present as from the beginning of the gait, which indicates that they are unlikely to be caused by the rapid increasing fatigue. This strengthens the hypothesis of a direct involvement of the central nervous system (CNS) in the onset of the disease.

The structure of the conclusion sections in Research Papers (RPs) is of significance in academic writing. The conclusion section in spite of providing an outline of the article, states other essential components, such as recommendations, implications and statements of possible lines of future research. This paper analyses the conclusion parts of Persian and English Research papers published in international journals. To meet this end 20 RPs were selected from two fields including Civil Engineering and Applied Linguistics. The Conclusion sections of the papers were examined for their moves based on Yang and Allison's (2003) model of moves. The frequency analysis of the moves showed slight differences among the moves employed and with regards to the Chi-Square tests, no significant differences were observed between the Conclusion sections of Applied Linguistics and Civil Engineering RPs regarding the moves employed as well as between Persian and English RPs. The study yields a richer understanding of the conclusion structure of research articles and offers ESP/EFL instructors and researchers, insights which can be used in the instruction of the conventions or expectations of academic writing. Novice writers and non-native students can benefit from it, mainly because it helps them eliminate their writing dilemmas and assists them to take part in international discourse communities.

— In this study we focus on the sonification of
Samba dance, using a multi-modal analysis-by-synthesis
approach. In the analysis we use periodic pattern analysis to
decompose the Samba dance movements into basic
movement gestures along the music’s metric layers. In the
synthesis we start from the basic movement gestures and
extract peaks and valleys, which we use as basic material for
the sonification. This leads to a matrix of repetitive dance
gestures from which we select the proper cues that trigger
samples of a Samba ensemble. The straightforward
sonification procedure suggests that Samba rhythms may be
mirrored in choreographic forms or vice-versa.

Alpine ski racing is a popular sport in many countries and a lot of research has gone into optimising athlete performance. Two factors influence athlete performance in a ski race: speed and the chosen path between the gates. However, to date there is no objective, quantitative method to determine instantaneous skiing performance that takes both of these factors into account. The purpose of this short communication was to define a variable quantifying instantaneous skiing performance and to study how this variable depended on the skiers' speed and on their chosen path. Instantaneous skiing performance was defined astime loss per elevation difference dt/dz, which depends on the skier's speed v(z), and the distance travelled per elevation difference ds/dz. Using kinematic data collected in an earlier study, it was evaluated how these variables can be used to assess the individual performance of six ski racers in two slalom turns. The performance analysis conducted in this study might be a useful tool not only for athletes and coaches preparing for competition, but also for sports scientists investigating skiing techniques or engineers developing and testing skiing equipment.

This empirical study investigates 'b-boying', the original dance form of hip-hop culture, focusing specifically on how it differs from popular representations of 'breakdancing' . I employ a methodological approach known as grounded theory
ethnography, and use qualitative interviews, participant observation, artifact collection, literature review, and movement notation inspired by Laban Movement Analysis and Alien Ness' 5 Elements of Battle Style to explore how dancers in Montreal, Quebec (Canada) feel their embodied dance experience of 'b-boying' differs from commercial representations of 'breakdancing' from the 1980s. l follow the grounded theory approach as described by Kathy Charmaz, and draw
from Suzanne Youngerman' s approach to dance analysis to develop a conceptual frame work that explores the choreological, sociological, and symbolic elements of these two dances. First, l present the structural and stylistic differences between b-boying as it is practised in Montreal, and breakdancing as it is represented in Hollywood movies and instruction manuals produced from 1982 to 1986. Next, I draw from George Mead's theory of self-as-object and self-as-process, as well as Pierre Bourdieu 's notion of habitus, to argue that b-boying is not a dance form per se, but rather an expression of identity through dance practice. I introduce the term 'self-as-dancing-body' to discuss this unique manifestation of social identity that is constructed and performed through participation in a dance practice and community. Finally, I investigate the notion of ' the realness'- or artistic and cultural authenticity in b-boying. I argue that the perception of breakdancing as a ' false ' representation of b-boying serves as a bar against which b-boys and b-girls in Montreal can measure their own or their peers' performance of the dance form and commitment to hip-hop culture.

Martha Graham’s Lamentation (1930) is one of her early works. Graham herself and, subsequently, several writers have commented on and discussed Lamentation. The present article intends:
firstly, to analyze the “strands of the medium” and their interrelations in Lamentation, with special emphasis on movement and music, in order to thoroughly and systematically examine the most significant aspects of the work; secondly, to explore the range of grief in Lamentation by applying the psychologist Kübler-Ross’s model (1997) known as the “Five Stages of Grief”. Furthermore,
a discussion of the symbolic and anthropological reference of the costume is undertaken. The analysis is based on action research focusing on the revival of Lamentation in its 2005 performance by Denise Vale in Athens, Greece.

This theoretical study is part of my doctoral research on the history and development
of the psychodynamic theory movement, the Kestenberg Movement
Profile (KMP). This paper attempts to introduce the KMP within the historical
context of its origins, the psychoanalytic circles of 1940–1980 New York outlining
the main lines of influence on Kestenbreg’s work. The KMP forms
a complex integrative approach of movement assessment and analysis that
examines the interplay between movement development and the process of
self-formation. The paper explores the theoretical foundations of the
Kestenberg Movement Profile in general, concerning influences from Freudian
drive theory and ego-psychology in particular. The paper aims to illuminate the
field of scientific thought that the KMP emerged from as a psychodynamic
assessment tool of movement behaviour.

This article introduces innovative methods of skill-building and fostering sustainable practice in professional development and workplace wellbeing, presented here through the embodied decision making model. The model helps identify body-based stressors, assess environmental factors and clarify needs and priorities in order to map potential courses of action/non-action through an examination of embodied processes. It illustrates a non-linear, dynamic process with theoretical basis on movement analysis systems and developmental frameworks. Gaps in current decision-making research on individual differences are identified, sustaining that body-based factors remain absent and require further examination. An original contribution of this article is to explore the connection between decision-making and embodied self-reflexivity in professional practice. Data gathered from professional development workshops are applied thematically to illustrate the potential for practice-based embodied frameworks. The term 'variables of insight' is introduced as an exploration of micro-and macro-processes in the stages embodied decision making as an innovative vector of analysis that substantiates the relevance of movement and symbolic content in reflexive practice. The article concludes that dynamic models, which account for individual differences and maintain an integrated view of body-mind, can challenge the notion of decision-making as a standardised and cognitive-focused process, while maintaining an inclusive and diverse client-centred stance.

Rukmini Devi was a key figure in the revival of Indian dance in the early independence era. Her innovations pertained to both solo and dance-drama forms. The paper deals with analysis of two important scenes of her Ramayana production-Sabari moksham which show her choreographic strategies and reflect her style with regard to dance drama. It reflects how she worked with aesthetic consciousness of her times during the nationalist struggle of the 1930s and 40s. Analysis has used terminology as in Abhinayadarpana which is used as the textual reference for Bharatanatyam. The paper finds how dimensions of choreography with regard to stage aesthetics, costuming of characters, intonation of sollu, character and context-oriented use of nritta and angika abhinaya broadened the scope of collective performance in her works.

Sit-to-stand (STS) movement is widely performed in daily life and an important pre requisite for acquisition of functional abilities. However, STS is a biomechanical demanding task which requires high levels of neuromuscular coordination, muscle strength and postural control. As children with cerebral palsy (CP) exhibit a series of impairments in body structures and functions, STS movement performance could be impaired

Group choreographies in the dance form of Bharatanatyam were unheard of till the 1940s though traditional dance-drama forms like Kuravanji nataka and Bhagavatha melanataka existed as religious and court practices since the period of Chola and Vijayanagara empire in the 10th and 14th CE respectively. With the nationalistic vision and changing socio-cultural fabric during the pre-independence, Bharatanatyam, a solo dance form, began to be adapted to be presented on the proscenium by a few who took the liberty to make innovations to its format. This paper analyses the component structures, features, and style of one such choreography in Sabari Mōkṣam, a dance-drama work of Rukmini Devi. The preliminary movement analysis is based on the dance text of Abhinaya Darpana. Movement analysis undertaken here involves interpretive discussion on the technique of Panćāpsara sarōvara, a scene that depicts the dance of five water nymphs under the surface of a lake. The paper shows how the scene offers a fantastic prologue to the unfolding drama through different strategies of choreography

This interdisciplinary thesis examines the role of dance/movement in training
programmes, which address peace, violence, conflict and trauma. Despite the growing
literature and scholarly interest in embodied practices, few training programmes
address dance/movement peace explicitly, identify shared beliefs or make connections
between movement behaviour and decision-making. The research questions explore
how dance/movement trainers experience, implement and conceptualise embodied
processes that enable the transformation of conflict, particularly concerning
interpersonal and/or intergroup violence. In order to investigate this question, an
‘internal’ analysis of relations and practices amongst its practitioners progresses to an
‘external’ analysis of contributions to arts-based peace practices and peacebuilding.
Twelve semi-structured interviews were conducted with experienced trainers working
internationally who use artistic, therapeutic and educational approaches to peace
practices. The practitioners’ curricula and training materials were examined using
thematic analysis and qualitative analysis software (NVivo). The data analysis results
in a map of shared beliefs, positionality and boundary shifts amongst the respondents,
and proposes an exploration of practices applicable to multiple settings and client
groups.
This thesis presents new research in Communities of Practice (CoP) theory with artistic
communities. It also deepens previous research on dance/movement peace practices
and movement analysis, which sustains peaceable and violent actions can be
understood through conscious and/or unconscious movement decision-making
processes. The thesis concludes that embodied processes involve reflexive and enactive
interventions, and proposes analyses of spatial relations, symbolic enactment and
relational nonverbal interactions as key contributions of dance/movement. These
embodied processes challenge ‘conventional’ forms of knowledge transmission and the
arts’ constant pressure for legitimisation. The thematic exploration of shared practices
and beliefs therefore integrates movement analysis and social theory to present an
interdisciplinary contribution to embodied analyses of violence.

A belief that as part of any equitable society a just system is needed for members whom find themselves in crisis, and that creativity can be useful as a transformative and informative process, guides this research. Questions of how creativity and dance movement therapy (DMT) can be powerful whilst working with domestic violence and abuse (DVA) will be explored. Dance movement and the body have power and are of value and necessary in recovery, prevention, intervention and therapist experience. In introduction I will precise the statistics and outcome measures used in cases of domestic violence abuse interventions. I will explore the literature and research that already exists with domestic violence and dance movement therapy. I will suggest that existing outcome measures tell us little about how to work with or what happens to a person during or after such crisis. The aim of this research is to offer more of an integrated voice by focusing on the therapist's embodiment whilst working with dance movement therapy and creativity with children whom have experienced and witnessed abuse. The objectives are to look specifically at the therapist's embodied processing of therapeutic material and the themes which emerge from this. Using an experiential and somatic emphasis, the focus of the therapist's perspective has an autoethnographical lens which will be captured in five films of my processing as a dance movement psychotherapist after sessions with children whom have experience DVA. These films will be viewed and commented on by an academic and personal supervisor adding another perspective and layer to the embodied process of therapist. These comments will be presented at the EADMT conference by poster presentation and the results will be presented here in this paper and by films which will be available to view online in a secure environment. In summary of the results: this research finds that different layers of embodiment and movement/creativity exist as a result of working with and experiencing DVS and the films show the impact on the therapist body. The layers are intricate, intimate and interconnected and provide an informative and authentic pathway for the therapist in the processing of client material.

Through recent artistic practices and technology of interactive systems for music, composition and improvisation have more and more blended and interconnected with each other – a sui generis situation now called comprovisation. The concept of comprovisation applies equally well to the spontaneous generation and manipulation of computer graphics, especially as such graphics are systematically coordinated audio-visually, while being subject to spontaneous manipulation by a performer.
This is explained in terms of the Fluxations and FluxNoisations Human Body Interfaces, interactive dance systems that generate music and graphics spontaneously in response to hand and body movement. They enable spontaneous expressive shaping of coherent complexity and variety. Thus a multi-layered multimodal experience arises. The aesthetic experience of this multimedia spectacle relates to experiences of various prior music and visual art of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, as well as to hypothetical physical realities. Thus a kind of cybernetic phenomenology of art is pursued and enacted through an embodied cybersynthesis of art with simulated alternate reality. Call it a pragmatic speculative realism, an adventurous technoetic ‘what if.’ As compared to more traditional forms of improvisation, the opportunities for risk-taking and aesthetic exploration rise to a new level of uncertainty, as the reactions of the improviser simultaneously draw from and target both visual and aural modalities, such that the intentions toward each fuse together."

With the emergence of new media brings the " identification and specification of emergent genres " (Thurlow & Mroczek 2011). These emergent genres therefore offer a certain hybridity that necessitates further exploration and study. Whilst genre analysis and genre-based approaches are well-established in identifying the rhetorical features and moves employed in written genres for academic and business purposes, other 'lay' and new genres have received less attention. This study examines a corpus of 200 " Straight White Boy " (SWB) texts submitted by users to the Tumblr blog " straightwhiteboystexting.tumblr.com " . Swales rhetorical movement analysis (1981, 1990) provided an essential basis for the analytical framework of this study, which used the top-down discourse analysis designed by Biber et al. (2007), referred to as the “Biber Connor Upton (BCU) approach”. Applying this approach to a move analysis of this ‘lay’ genre, the results suggest that SWB texts share a common communicative purpose, as observed in the identification and recurrence of moves found (Addressing Conversational Partner, Attempt at Developing Intimacy, Elaboration of Sexual Goal and Reaction to Rejection). Thus from an English for Specific Purposes perspective, where communicative purpose is a defining feature, SWB texts may be constituted as a genre. By integrating corpus-based and genre-based approaches, these findings open the field to exploring new and unfamiliar ‘lay’ genres, as well as highlighting the worth and practical value of using this integrated approach for the analysis of such genres.

This paper reconstructs the relationship between the now, motion, and number in Aristotle to clarify the nature of the now, and, thereby, the relationship between motion and time. Although it is clear that for Aristotle motion, and, more generally, change, are prior to time, the nature of this priority is not clear. But if time is the number of motion, then the priority of motion can be grasped by examining his theory of number. This paper aims to show that, just as numbers are generated by the soul, time is not presupposed by motion, but emerges through the soul’s articulation of motion. Time is co-constituted by the soul and motion. The now is the key to understanding both the contribution of motion and soul to the being of time. The now is part of the soul’s articulation of motion, and sets the stage for an act that distinguishes a unit from its underlying motion. The now, then, sets up an abstraction by which the soul generates the temporal number from motion. Reconstructing this account of abstraction allows us to formulate more strongly Aristotle’s claim to the ontological dependence of time on motion. The paper then gives a systematic overview of the relationships between the now and number in order to address the question of whether the now might be extended. It closes with an examination of the possibility that motion depends on time, and how universal time is possible.

In the early 1950s, the founders of Gestalt therapy posited a radical notion of self. Self, they stated, is a process emergent in the activity of creative adjusting-dynamic, fluid and changing. In the experience of moving through the world, self discovers and invents the world it is moving through. Similar to every revolutionary idea, this radical thinking offers us the rich ground for further expansion and development of its phenomenological stance. It gives us the foundation from which to say what is already there and the foundation to say what is yet to be said. As a phenomenological methodology, Gestalt therapy is concerned with an understanding of how we live the situation we are living: how to analyze, describe and know it. In this chapter, I hope to illuminate more fully the organizing processes of self by presenting a closer investigation or next step into the dynamics of human movement. I advance an analysis of the structure and function of movement progressions and give a phenomenological account of creative adjusting by breaking down movement into its most basic elements and exploring the means by which we make manifest experience before it becomes objectified in reflection. I argue here for the understanding of movement as part of any phenomenological analysis regarding self. Further, I emphasize the significance of fundamental movements emerging in the time frame of the first year of life and their constitutive participation in the moment-to-moment experiences throughout life: a developmental perspective. In general, the essence of my work has been to recognize and validate the importance of interactive movement in the creating and organizing of experience. I observe and identify movement patterns in relationship dyads: specifically baby-parent and therapist-patient dyads. I explore movement from a structural-functional perspective and consider how each person in the relationship creatively

The Geographic Information System (GIS) has been commonly used to analyse and elaborate the big data of urban mobility in modern cities. At the same time a range of studies has been utilizing it to examine various kinds of movements in old times, especially those on a large territorial scale. This article aims to highlight the use of GIS in the study of urban mobility of Rome during the 18th century, drawing on textual evidence and archives. The results of this work will offer new hypothesises around the most trafficked zones and the main routes of movement traveled in the Italian capital during this period
