Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) are increasingly important since they aim to bring solutions to crucial problems related to transportation networks such as congestion and various road incidents. Management of ITS, as other complex and distributed applications, has to cope with unforeseeable events and incomplete data while guaranteeing a quality of service (QoS) defined by multiple criteria reflecting real-life needs. To enable applications to adapt to changing environments, we define a methodology of dynamic architecture reconfiguration based on multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) using evolutionary computing (EC) to find the best combination of architecture components. We use the Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm Adapting the Penalty (PEAP), a category of EC, selected in this paper to deal with time-consuming online processing required by basic EC such as genetic algorithms. Our simulation results relating to road safety highlight the benefits of MCDM prior to such reconfiguration. We also address the problem of destabilization which can result from repeated reconfigurations in response to ongoing environment changes. management (TQM) enablers and information technology (IT) resources according to their order of frequency of occurrences, vital few factors were taken in this study. The objective of the present study was formulated to identify ‘vital few’ factors of TQM enablers and IT resources for the benefits of researchers and practitioners. The major findings of this study is distinguished the most usable enabler ‘top management commitment and support (TMCS)’ and resource ‘electronic data interchange (EDI)’ by using Pareto analysis approach. The result of this study will help quality experts and managers in TQM implementation in more effective and fruitful way in information communication and technology (ICT) industry. The future scope of this study is TMCS and EDI can be widely used to the extent of TQM implementation. The managerial implication of this study investigates enabler ‘TMCS’ and resource ‘EDI’ are most crucial for smoother implementation of TQM in ICT industry.

In food manufacturing, maintenance of manufacturing equipment is one of the most important essentials for an efficient manufacturing as this sector continuously face challenges that makes maintenance very critical due to the nature of manufacturing, thus as a result food manufacturing companies must add or modify their maintenance strategies in order to keep production running efficiently. The aim of this study is to carry out a maintenance performance evaluation and downtime analysis in a food manufacturing company and suggest areas for further improvement. In this study, an empirical case study was carried out in order to evaluate the maintenance performance and downtime analysis. Overall equipment effectiveness and Pareto analysis were used to carry out a maintenance performance evaluation and downtime analysis on the manufacturing equipment using three years historical data obtained from the food manufacturing company as an industrial case study. The study found that the average overall equipment effectiveness is 55.30% which is a low value when compared with Overall Equipment Effectiveness world standards, meaning that the manufacturing organisation is operating in an average condition and there is a required urgent improvement of maintenance policies and strategies, otherwise it will

The need to determine the critical success factors (CSFs) and success criteria (SC) would serve as keys to an effective and efficient project delivery and performance to achieve project success. This paper analyzed the CSFs and SC through the application of Pareto Analysis and Analytic Hierarchy Process using a validated questionnaire as a basis in developing a framework for structural works of a mixed-use building construction project through the determination of priority CSFs and most recognized SC. Based on the results, the study found twenty-six CSFs associated with structural works of building project delivery using meta-analysis. The top six CSFs were established as the vital few or the 20 percent after performing Pareto Analysis. Utilizing a validated questionnaire, experts evaluated CSFs through the fundamental scale of the Analytic Hierarchy Process which revealed the ranking of most prioritized CSFs such as Teamwork and Communication, Training and Education, Personnel, Project Mission, Top Management Commitment, and Client Focus, respectively. Furthermore, the study determined the five most recognized SC with the highest frequency on existing literature such as Client/Customer Satisfaction, Cost-Budget, Time-Schedule, Quality-Performance, and Other Stakeholder's Satisfaction. With this, a framework has been developed based on priority CSFs and recognized SC that can be used by construction project participants during the structural phase and may serve as a guide to achieve the utmost objective of all construction projects which is success.

La chaudière a connu durant les dernières années une chute de performances remarquable. Ce système, à lui seul, est l’élément le plus critique dans la centrale vu qu’il est indispensable au démarrage fuel de la turbine. Cette situation a nécessité une rénovation du système contrôle commande afin de rétablir ses performances d’origines et améliorer sa disponibilité, pour cela nous avons étudié et conçu une nouvelle armoire de contrôle commande.

In this paper, a case study on implementing Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control (DMAIC) phases of Six Sigma programme in a furnace manufacturing company is reported. When Six Sigma was developed at Motorola, it was encapsulated with DMAIC and belt-based training infrastructure. Since belt-based training is expensive, companies with less revenue have been implementing only DMAIC phases. In this background, the impact of implementing DMAIC phases was examined in the research narrated in this paper through the reporting of the case study mentioned above. As the result of implementing DMAIC phases, the sigma level increased from 3.31 to 3.67 in the case of drilling a hole in a component called 'furnace nozzle'. This increase in sigma level proved that DMAIC phases are powerful enough to enable the companies with less revenue to perform at six sigma level quality and acquire competitive strength.

Garments industry is playing the pioneering role in improving Bangladesh economic condition. It was started in late 1970’s and now the leading foreign currency earner for Bangladesh. It is no dubiousness to say that, the Bangladesh garment industry is ameliorating garment’s service quality and innovative design features to exist in the global competitive market. Global competition in the garment’s market is changing day to day. Leading garment manufacturer from all over the world are adopting new innovative features and techniques to sustain global fierce competitive market. However, the point is, Bangladeshi garment manufacturers are not lingered. They are also emphasizing on better service quality by adding latest design features and using the latest technologies to the garments. The sole purpose of this paper is to identify the root causes of sewing defects of an apparel industry in Bangladesh and continuous improvement in reducing the defects through Kaizen (Continuous Improvement) system. In short, productivity improvement of the apparel industry. Our studied garment manufacturing company is “ABONTI Color Tex. Ltd.” Pareto Analysis is used to identify the top defect items. Cause-Effect Analysis helped to identify the root causes of sewing defects. Then, Kaizen is used for continuous improvement of the minimization of sewing defects.

The words “business” and “ethics” – or any words that have elements of commerce and social responsibility fused in conjunction – is often met with confusion and sometimes contempt, as if such an oxymoron has any practical legitimacy. Most of the skepticism is produced, in part, because the current paradigm of business practice (the stockholder theory) is in direct contradiction with general ethics. Opponents seek to reconceptualise such a doctrine as to merge business and welfare together into practice while proponents argue such a paradigm would paralyze firms into dissolution. In this paper, I will critique the three models of corporate social responsibility by Milton Friedman, Joseph Heath, and R. Edward Freeman respectively, and I will argue that while none of the three satisfies as either a cogent or morally justifiable theory of corporate social responsibility, fusing the Stakeholder and Market Failures model together suffice to satisfy such criteria better than any of the three independently. The criteria I am using to evaluate each theory are: 1) cogency and 2) whether each theorist has offered a morally justifiable theory for or against corporate social responsibility. I will not discuss every argument addressed by each theorist – rather, my analysis will be directed at the crux of each.

The readymade garment industry is the leading industry in Bangladesh that's why the Quality improvement of garments can play a vital role. The main purpose of this paper is to reduce the defects that will minimize the rework rate. We worked at " Interstoff Apparels Limited " , Bangladesh identifying sewing defects for a particular product (knit T-Shirts). Pareto analysis is performed to identify top defect positions from all the defects and seven are identified where 80% defects occur which should be the major concerning areas to minimize defects percentage. Cause-effect diagrams are constructed to show the root cause, effect, and 5S & PDCA is used to minimize the defects effectively. Recommendations have been added at the end of the study.

This chapter intends to analyze the result from FMEA study on the Three-Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) system. The analysis is conducted by using Pareto Chart to ranks the value of RPN from the highest to the lowest values. It is expected to determine numbers of potential failure modes that require post-FMEA study. From the RPN ranks cutoff value is determined to segregate which factors need to undergo the next step of this method of study. This research will cover mostly on the system and design of the TWC itself as the most important part for controlling the exhaust emission from automobiles. By quantifying and ranks the RPN, readers will be presented with numerical value of seriousness of potential failures to the system.

INFO ARTIKEL ABSTRAK Sejarah artikel: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukenali jenis cacat yang ada pada proses pembuatan botol air 600 ml di PT TIB Jember, kemudian berupaya mengatasinya. Alat bantu yang diterapkan adalah peta kendali p Statistical Process Control (SPC). Peta kendali bulan September 2019 menunjukkan bahwa beberapa data produksi melebihi batas kendali atas (BKA/UCL). Pemilahan jenis cacat dikategorikan menjadi tiga: botol memutih, bentuk tidak sesuai, dan pecah. Dari diagram Pareto terungkap bahwa cacat berdasarkan rangking adalah 58.57% botol memutih, 26.36% bentuk tidak sesuai dan botol pecah sebesar 15,07%. Dengan bantuan fishbone diagram ditemukan beberapa penyebab cacat. Pertama, suhu ruangan yang tidak konsisten yang mengakibatkan preform (bahan dasar botol) tidak matang dengan sempurna sehingga pada saat perentangan pada mold terjadi botol memutih pada bagian pinggul atau bawah botol. Kedua, pemanas (heater) yang seringkali mati menyebabkan bentuk tidak sempurna. Matinya heater ini disebabkan oleh kebocoron selang dari pendingin heater yang retak getas karena usia. Beberapa saran diberikan untuk memperbaiki mutu. Salah satu saran sudah dilaksanakan yaitu penggantian selang-selang tersebut. Pemeriksaan ulang terhadap kualitas produksi dilakukan, peta kendali p bulan Oktober 2019 menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada lagi data yang keluar dari batas kendali. Terjadi penurunan tingkat cacat dari 0,74% ke 0,55 % (0,19%). ABSTRACT Keywords: This research aim is to findout type of defects in prodution process of 600 ml bottle water at PT TIB Jember, then some attemps to resolve the problem. The p-chart of Statistical Process Control was employed. The control chart in September 2019 shown that some data beyond the ultimate control limit (UCL). The defects were categorized into three: whitening, deviate form, and broken. The Pareto chart revealed that the aforemention defects were 59.7%, 26.36% and 15.07% respectively. By using fishbone diagram some root cause of the defects were found. First, the unstable workpalce temperature which disturb the preform melting process prior to blowing, therefore causing whitening the bottle. Second, the heater which is often turned off while processing that caused deviate form. The frequently turned off the heater was caused by cracked-damage along the hoses of overdue. Some suggestions were given, one of them was replacing the hoses by the new ones. The new control chart on October 2019 shown that all data within the limits following the hoses replacement. RMG is the biggest manufacturing sector in Bangladesh, which contributes biggest part in the growth rate of GDP. Though, this sector has some obstacles to overcome for greater outcomes. To ensure sustainable economic growth and compete in the global market, the garment industries should utilize their resources properly. Higher productivity ensures higher utilization of available resources i.e. man power, raw materials etc. In this paper we have studied and analyzed the productivity in sewing section of a garment factory. The focus of the study was labor productivity and defects in the production floor. Labor productivity was measured and analyzed using Kurosawa’s structural approach. It was found that the labor productivity is not up to the standard level. The reasons that reduce labor productivity and the factors for improving labor productivity were identified using questionnaires and observations. Occurrence of defects was analyzed using Pareto analysis which helped to identify the vital defects. Using root cause analysis, cause and effect diagram was generated and the reasons of the defects were identified. Based on that, the solutions for reducing those defects were recommended. Some of the techniques that the garment manufacturing factory can implement are six sigma, automation and nominal group technique.

Dengan menempuh pendidikan di perguruan tinggi, maka mahasiswa bisa mendapatkan tambahan ilmu serta wawasannya yang dapat digunakan di kehidupan serta untuk mempersiapkan masa depannya. Selain itu, dengan menempuh pendidikan di perguruan tinggi mahasiswa bisa mendapatkan suatu gelar yaitu gelar sarjana. Untuk mendapatkan gelar sarjana tersebut, maka mahasiswa harus memenuhi salah satu persyaratannya yaitu menulis tugas akhir. Dalam praktikum ini peneliti ingin mengetahui bagaimana pengendalian kualitas statistika terhadap kesalahan maupun kecacatan dari hasil tugas akhir mahasiswa Departemen Statistika ITS tahun 2015. Kesalahan maupun kecacatan diklasifikasikan menjadi lima jenis yaitu kesalahan format (bold, italic, underline, dan kapital), kesalahan penulisan bahasa asing, kesalahan penulisan kata (typo), tinta memudar saat pencetakan, dan kesalahan spasi. Hasil dalam praktikum ini adalah bahwa jumlah kesalahan paling banyak dari setiap bab oleh 10 TA 2015 yang diamati terdapat pada Bab IV dimana terdiri dari 28 kesalahan baik dari kesalahan penulisan (bold, italic, underline, dan kapital), kesalahan ejaan bahasa asing, kesalahan penulisan huruf (typo), tinta pudar maupun kesalahan pemberian spasi. Rancangan sampling yang digunakan dalam praktikum ini untuk adalah sampling acak sederhana, hasil uji kecakan dari data kesalahan maupun kecacatan pada hasil tugas akhir mahasiswa telah acak, uji binomial untuk data kesalahan maupun kecacatan pada hasil tugas akhir tidak berdistribusi binomial namun diasumsikan telah berdistribusi binomial, diagram Pareto diperoleh komponen yang menyebabkan kesalahan dalam penulisan tugas akhir mahasiswa adalah penulisan (bold, italic, underline, dan kapital) karena indikator tersebut memiliki pengaruh paling besar pada kualitas ketelitian TA 2015, peta kendali p diperoleh bahwa kerusakan kursi di Departemen Statistika ITS belum terkendali, peta kendali np diperoleh bahwa kerusakan kursi di ruang F08 dan T103A sudah terkendali, dan berdasarkan analisis kapabilitas proses binomial dapat dikatakan bahwa rata-rata proporsi kondisi tidak teliti pada TA 2015 adalah 0,0638 dimana proses masih berada di luar batas kendali.

The use of statistical process control in a manufacturing industry can significantly improve the quality and productivity. The objective of this paper is to initiate using statistical process control in a hygiene product manufacturing factory of Bangladesh. The product under consideration is sanitary pad (belt type). At present, the factory doesn’t follow statistical process control. The aim is to study statistical process control in that manufacturing system so that management can upgrade into a more effective and cost efficient one. So, statistical process control was initiated as a pilot project for the above-mentioned product line. In this paper, the application of control chart, Pareto analysis and DMAIC model and their importance for continuous quality improvement is shown. Attribute control chart (U chart) was generated using Minitab-17 software. It showed that the process is out of control. The data taken was for the number of non-conformance of the products in a 3-month period. Next, Pareto analysis was used for the defects to identify the few major types of defects that is responsible for most of the occurrences of the defects. From the Pareto analysis, a defect was chosen that was targeted for elimination form the process. A DMAIC model was used to further improve the quality. Key quality parameters were identified. DMAIC model was conducted with a team consisted of one people from top management, 3 production executives and 5 machine operators. Brainstorming sessions were conducted for successfully finishing the stages of DMAIC. The results showed that after completing one DMAIC cycle, the process showed significant improvement. After the first-time implementation of the DMAIC model, data was taken for another three months. The new U chart showed better results from previous data. Based on the result from the control chart, more brainstorming sessions needs to be conducted for completing more DMAIC cycle. The pilot run of the statistical process control tools was a success as it showed significant improvement opportunities.

Kırsal kesimde yaşayan kız çocukların örgün ortaöğretimi terk etme nedenlerinin belirlenmesini amaçlayan bu araştırma nitel araştırma yaklaşımlarından fenomenoloji yöntemi ile yürütülmüştür. Çalışma grubu, Karadeniz Bölgesi’ndeki bir ilçede yaşayan ve örgün ortaöğretimi terk etmiş 30 kız öğrenci ile onların ebeveynlerinden oluşmaktadır. Veriler görüşme tekniğiyle toplanmıştır. Görüşmelerde, öğrenci ve aileye ilişkin kişisel, sosyal, ekonomik ve kültürel bilgiler ile çocukların okula devam etmeme nedenlerine ilişkin bilgiler toplanmıştır. Veriler, tematik analiz tekniği ile çözümlenmiştir. Veri toplama, işleme ve analiz süreçlerinde geçerlik ve güvenirliği artırıcı önlemler alınmıştır. Sonuç olarak çalışma grubundaki kız çocukların okulu terk etmelerinin hayati nedenleri güvensizlik, muhafazakârlık, yoksulluk ve başarısızlık olarak bulunmuştur. Çocukların çoğunluğunun okul terki, iki ya da daha fazla nedenin bir araya gelmesinden kaynaklanmaktadır. Güvensizlik/muhafazakarlık, güvensizlik/yoksulluk ve güvensizlik/muhafazakarlık/yoksulluk, çalışma grubundaki kız çocukların okulu terk etmelerinde öne çıkan nedenlerdir. Terk nedenlerinin birleşimi, öğrenciden öğrenciye farklılaşmaktadır. Bu çerçevede hükümet tarafından okul terkini önlemek amacıyla alınacak tedbirlerin öğrenci bazında çeşitlendirilmesi önerilmektedir.

— In this paper, we have compared these three methods (Pareto, Knapsack problem (KP) and Greedy Algorithm) in order to deduce which among them is the most effective. The purpose of this study is to remedy halts and unforeseen breakdowns on chains of production as well as to increase the efficiency of production, which is the major concern of the industry leaders. The choice of method of maintenance management directly affects the stability of the productivity and the cost of maintenance actions. We will compare the results obtained from these three methods: Pareto, which is widely used in the maintenance; Knapsack Problem, which is widely used in Freight management; and Greedy Algorithm, which is used in scheduling. We will apply these three methods to an actual case study in order to improve industrial maintenance structure in the production of soft drinks. The synthesis will be based on two variables: the number of failure times for each machine for two months and the budget to repair them. We have shown in this document that the Greedy algorithm for scheduling gave beneficial results of 3.50% more than those obtained using the Knapsack problem (KP) for the management of transportation of the goods. In the same perceptual using, the latter gave results, which advance 8% visa -vis the use of Pareto method that is specific to industrial maintenance. Our future goal is to design a new method that incorporates the most effective elements from each of these three existing methods.

The material culture of Mayapan (ca. A.D. 1250–1400), the last great capital city of the northern Maya lowlands, has often been described as “decadent.” Such descriptions, however, are highly subjective. In this chapter, we consider poverty and wealth at Mayapan from a perspective based in modern economics. We find that, as in modern societies, wealth (as measured by house size) at Mayapan fits a Pareto
distribution. Nevertheless, compared to two Classic-period sites in Mexico—Palenque and Sayil—the distribution of wealth was more equal at Mayapan, suggesting that economic inequality was less extreme at the Postclassic city. One cause for the decadent material culture of Mayapan, therefore, was that the city was impoverished when compared to its Classic predecessors.

Due to frequent debacle of giant companies that we have to exhume from the grassroot level variance. Variance is the difference between the Budget estimates/standard cost and the Actual estimates. Budget is the grassroot planning and this grassroot variance has to be pedagoguely and adroitly gauged. Rather than working an aggressive attempt of study of other standard cost variance, management variances etc there is a connotations of study of budget variances. Our budget starts with planning the forecast. The budgeted amount is prime tool of benchmarking the performance of the organization. A key use of variance analysis is in performance evaluation. If budget variance is very large enough then it is indicating our weakness in forecasting and planning and lastly dynamically implementing. Management by exception is the practice of concentrating on areas not operating as anticipated. Managers use sizable variances for planning and allocating their effort .The efficiency level in relative to amount of inputs used can be analysed as well the degree of effectiveness in relative to pre-determined target/budget can be measured. This paper is to prove the budget variance with the help of pareto chart which specifically show which factor of cause has to be worked upon. I have chosed pareto chart because the major causes are arranged in descending order and the cumulative frequency is being graphed to highlight the major cause of the organization. I have suggested the managerial budgetary control for cost management for the organization.

The emergence of HEVC software implementations allows for several different encoding options. Unfortunately, there is no established method for selecting optimal encoding configurations. The current paper proposes the use of a multi-objective optimization framework for selecting optimal encodings that can be subsequently used for solving constrained optimization problems in quality, bitrate, and encoding time. The proposed optimization framework is used to select optimal configurations from 3,600 possibilities based on GOP configurations and other relevant HEVC software options.
We demonstrate our approach using the x265 encoder with examples from the UT LIVE video quality database and a standard 2K video example. The results demonstrate the success of the proposed approach by selecting optimal configurations and eliminating several suboptimal encodings

Vilfredo Pareto (1848 – 1923) was studying the inequality of welfare distribution in Italy during the nineteenth century and developed a useful tool named „the principle 80:20“, which was later adopted in many fields to explain that a small number of causes can be responsible for a large percentage of effects. The principle can be applied to indicate the priority of problem solving and determine the direction of business drivers’ development. Separating the vital few from the trivial many, the management staff can improve firm performance. This paper, in particularly links the Pareto principle postulates to the decision making techniques and proposes different points of view for improving the purchasing process in a particular firm. The firm Mix Metal is a small trader in iron scrap present on the Croatian market since 2004. In this case the Pareto principle is adopted to rationalize the purchasing process and ensure better long term sales margins. The aim of the paper is to develop several points of view from which the root causes arise and problems can be interpreted. In particularly the paper tries to find for which suppliers and which types of material, the purchasing process must be reviewed and even end. The case is developed and presented using the case study methodology.

The aim of this paper is to illustrate possibilities of using Pareto method in evaluating the effectiveness of engineering production processes. The essence of this issue is dividing materials by using progressive technologies on the specific component and the evaluation of its effectiveness and quality. For the production of component was used method of dividing by the plasma, laser and water jet. To eliminate the irregularities in the quality of the resulting component was used Pareto method. The aim was to determine from the available technical knowledge the most efficient method using established evaluation model of efficiency. The result is the finding that the most effective device for dividing the chosen component is the plasma device.
