"The role that the involvement of parents may play in the treatment outcome of their
children with anxiety disorders is still under debate. Some studies dealing with other
disorders have examined the role that the expressed emotion (EE) construct (parental
overinvolvement, criticism and hostility) may play in treatment outcome and relapse.
Given that some of these aspects have been associated with social anxiety for a long time,
it was hypothesized that EE may be associated with lower treatment outcome. The sample
was composed of 16 adolescents who benefited from a school-based, cognitive-behavioural
intervention aimed at overcoming social anxiety. Then, parents were classified with
high or low EE. The results revealed that the adolescents whose parents had low EE
showed a statistically significant reduction of their social anxiety scores at posttest, as
opposed to adolescents of parents with high expressed emotion. These findings suggest
that parental psychopathology (parents with high EE) should be taken into consideration
to prevent poor adolescent treatment outcome."

Reducing and eliminating the use of restrictive practices, such as seclusion and restraint, is a national priority for Australia’s mental health services. Whilst legislation, organization and practice changes have all contributed to a reduction in these practices, forensic mental health services continue to report high rates. This paper details the findings of research that examined the experiences of nurses working in the inpatient forensic mental health setting.
The research aimed to (i) document the experiences of nurses working in the forensic mental health setting, (ii) articulate their perceived unique skill set to manage challenging patient behaviours, and (iii) determine how their experiences and skill set can inform practice changes to reduce the use of restrictive practices. Thirty-two nurses were recruited from one Australian forensic mental health service. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and analysed using inductive content analysis. Four categories were identified that influenced practice experiences: (i) working in a challenging but interesting environment, (ii) specialty expertize, (iii) exposure to aggression and resilience as a protective factor, and (iv) the importance of effective teamwork and leadership. Forensic mental health care is complex, highly specialized, and often delivered in an unpredictable environment. Whilst high rates of restrictive practices may be linked
to the unique characteristics of forensic patients, training, teamwork, and leadership are critical factors influencing their use in this setting. Nurses working in this area need to be educated and supported to work confidently and safely with this high-risk patient cohort.

People abused by angry discipline as children, may tend to abuse or overly punish other people or themselves for perceived wrongs in their adult life. In some individuals, aggressive personality traits may be genetically inherited. The aggressive personality may feel weakened by having guidelines or boundaries for anger. Anger is a normal human emotion, and these guidelines can help express anger in a healthy way.

Following the death of 17-year-old Leelah Alcorn, a transgender teen who committed suicide after forced “conversion therapy,” President Barack Obama called for a nationwide ban on psychotherapy aimed at changing sexual orientation or gender identity. The administration argued that because conversion therapy causes substantial psychological harm to minors, it is neither medically nor ethically appropriate. We fully agree with the President and believe that this is a step in the right direction. Of course, in addition to being unsafe as well as ethically unsound, current conversion therapy approaches aren’t actually effective at doing what they claim to do – changing sexual orientation. But we also worry that this may be a short-term legislative solution to what is really a conceptual problem. The question we ought to be asking is “what will happen if and when scientists do end up developing safe and effective technologies that can alter sexual orientation?”

Mental illness, which can be referred to as mental illness is a disease which makes the mind to undergo persistent distractions either in the way of thinking or approach of behaving thus bringing about the lack of ability to keep up with the usual life demands and daily routines. It is a regular widespread occurrence which often denies a person the ability to attain a stable state of psychological order. Therefore, to establish a standard mental diagnosis, the recognition of the causes and effects of mental illness is quite vital. It helps one in comprehending the damages caused by misdiagnosis, its inaccuracy and why claiming the diagnostic clarity is quite essential in the full process of recovery. It takes quite a given procedure to determine the state of mental illness in a person (Bota, Fraser, & Groysman, 2017, p. 02).

Background & Aims: Data on rates of in-patient admission is an invaluable tool for formulating credible policies for the management of the mentally ill. Due to paucity of such information in the undeveloped world, this prospective study sought to examine the epidemiology of psychiatric in-patient admission over a 13-month period at a tertiary hospital in Northern Nigeria.
Methods: 298 out of 300subjects who satisfied the inclusion criteria for the study period completed the study. Diagnosis was made with the ICD 10 research criteria and the socio-demographic questionnaire was administered to each subject. The data was analyzed using the Statistical Package of the Social Sciences (SPSS) at 5% level of significance and 95% confidence interval.
Results: The following constituted the largest proportion of the study cohort: 20-29 year age group (40.6%), males (54%), unemployed (53.4%), those whose highest academic attainment was primary education (39.3%), urban dwellers (54.4%), singles i.e, unmarried (49.3%) and Christians (59.4%).
Conclusion: For the improvement of mental health services, adequate information about demography is the first step towards creating novel mental health initiatives that will benefit a greater number of patients.

Diabetes Mellitus 2 is a multifactorial disease whose global and national dimensions require a multidisciplinary approach for its control, with nutrition being a fundamental part of this within a healthy lifestyle. The study's objective was to evaluate the effect of amaranth as a functional food in a group of women with Diabetes Mellitus 2 (DM2) in Michoacán, Mexico over a year, previously with their informed consent. It was of a longitudinal, prospective, and intervention type. Among the comparative results of the beginning and end of the study, it is worth noting that the average blood glucose level decreased 29.86mg / d (118.9 / 89.04); there was an increase in high-density lipoprotein; moreover, the patients did not increase their body weight. The results suggest that amaranth as a food of habitual consumption represents an alternative of health and nutrition for the patient with DM2.

ISSN 2469-0910

Abstract— nowadays, it is essential for medical professionals to organize and keep track of their patients’ medical records. Keeping this kind of information is absolutely not an easy task, especially with a numerous amount of records and other documents that need to be filled, which are usually in rows of labeled folders in file cabinets. The lack in automated electronic medical recordkeeping is apparently more in the field of pediatrics. The growing influence of mobile phones, computers or technology as a whole, along with the advances in medical devices, are becoming a crucial part in the future of healthcare. All kind of technology driven devices are creating their way towards becoming essential tools in offices of medical practitioners. Furthermore, with these tools and equipment, record keeping of medical information of patients could be made more productive, convenient and fuller in content, not only including pictures but video and audio records as well.
Telemedicine is a generic term which is used to characterize various aspects of health care at a distance. In its most expansive application, telemedicine can be defined as the use of telecommunication technologies to provide medical information and services. The key aspect of telemedicine is the use of electronic signals to transfer information from one site to another. The term, telemedicine, is becoming most recognized as referring to remote clinical care and consultation through the use of electronic equipment that provides with images. By using Telemedicine technologies and a well-planned timeline, the SERENITY APP has successfully drawn down its hospitals complement. Telemedicine services that integrate electronic medical records can decrease the number of cases where doctors cannot access the records of patients. According to the Institute of Medicine, around 30% of physicians could not have accessed their patient's files in existing non-telemedicine systems and about 70% of the records were deficient.
Key Words: Telemedicine, Technologies, Telecommunication, Institute of Medicine.

Why do some mental illnesses emerge in certain times and places and later disappear? Because it integrates a wide array of social processes and relies on a strong epistemological position, Hacking's theory of ecological niches constitutes the most comprehensive and ambitious attempt to answer this question. However, this theory lacks a convincing definition of its research object ("transient mental illnesses"), a conceptualization of how individuals would "fall ill" as well as a solid methodological framework to form case studies. This article addresses these issues in order to propose an extended theory of ecological niches.

Shaping built environment of psychiatric hospitals is a process that requires predominantly adaptation of introduced solutions to particular patterns of patient behaviour. In contrast to other health care facilities, a psychiatric hospital admits patients with severe disorders of various origins. In a majority of cases, admitted patients in severe condition pose threat to themselves and/or for those around them.
