The Comet Zinc Prospect is 5,000 feet east of the Black Fox Gold Mine and 3,200 feet southeast of the Black Rock Gold Prospect.

OWNERSHIP
Walter Thompson (Wright and others, 1953, p. 75)
Dale Browning and others (U.S. Bureau of Mines, 1990, deposit #359, table 2, p. 138).

DEVELOPMENT
Lead-silver- gold deposit. Three shafts 80, 50, and 40 feet deep. Worked in World War I (Wright and others, 1953, p. 75).

Two vertical and four inclined shafts as much as 80 ft deep were mostly developed during World War I (Wright and others, 1953, table p. 75). Production is unknown, but minor amounts were probably produced during WW I (U.S. Bureau of Mines, 1990, deposit #359, table 2, p. 138).

GEOLOGY

Fracture zones in quartzite and dolomite (Prospect Mountain Quartzite) may contain replacements (Barca, 1966, p.8). lron oxided- stained, fractured quartz contains minor amounts of galena and secondary copper minerals. Bedding in the dolomite strikes N. 86° W and dips 30° SW (U.S. Bureau of Mines, 1990, deposit #359, table 2, p. 138).

Lead, silver, and gold reported (Wright and others, 1953, table p. 75). One sample (CRR- 1) contained 3,370 ppb gold, 311 ppm silver, and 28,100 ppm zinc (U.S. Bureau of Mines, 1990, deposit #359, table 2, p. 138).

Barca (1966) mapped the area of the Comet Zinc Prospect as Cambrian Prospect Mountain Quartzite (€pm). Hewett (1956) mapped the area of the Comet Zinc Prospect as Pre-Cambrian gneiss and granite.
Miller and others (2007) mapped the area as Early Proterozoic granitoids and gneiss (Xg).
