OZARK — Karen Donberger was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the National Technical Honor Society in recognition of her pursuit of a business technology degree at Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus.

Donberger, of Charleston, was one of 275 outstanding National Technical Honor Society members to receive the Jon H. Poteat Scholarship based on their ability to consistently exemplify the seven attributes of National Technical Honor Society, according to a news release from the university. Those attributes are skill, honesty, service, responsibility, scholarship, citizenship and leadership.

Since 1984, National Technical Honor Society has been the honor society for career and technical education, serving high schools, career centers, community and technical colleges, and universities. It recognizes more than 68,000 new members annually, the release states.

“National Technical Honor Society exists to advocate for and empower all students to pursue the technical and academic skills needed to build their careers and a skilled global workforce,” according to the release.

In partnership with student leadership organizations and industry partners, National Technical Honor Society has awarded more than $4 million in scholarships to career and technical education students. Some of these partners include Business Professionals of America, DECA, Family Career and Community Leaders of America, Future Business Leaders of America, Future Farmers of America, Future Health Professionals, Law & Public Safety Education Network, National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, National Center for Construction Education & Research and its Build Your Future initiative, Rubin, SkillsUSA, Technology Student Association and TechForce, the release states.
