BMHS news
Our 2024-25 lecture season is now under way, and we’re looking forward to hearing from some fantastic speakers on a range of different subjects. Welcome to the new members who joined the society over the Summer; we hope you’ll be able to attend some of our lectures and enjoy reading our quarterly newsletter.
About the Society
The Barnes and Mortlake History Society was founded in 1955. The Society promotes interest in the local history of Barnes, Mortlake and East Sheen in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.
The Society plays an important role in the local community. Our lectures and other activities are justifiably popular with our 400 members and are well known for their friendly atmosphere, attracting enthusiastic support from members and guests.
Four newsletters are delivered to members annually. These provide current details about talks and other events as well as containing articles of local historical interest, news concerning the Society and reports on local lectures. The Society produces a number of new publications each year.
The Society presents a monthly lecture from September to April. The emphasis is on local history but our programmes are varied and include a wide range of historical topics. The lectures are free to members; non-members are very welcome and are asked to make a payment of £5.
