Trailblazers of Glasgow Jazz

Meet corto.alto, the musical innovators pushing the boundaries of jazz, led by multi-instrumentalist, band leader and composer Liam Shortall.

From an experimental jam session in a tenement flat on Sauchiehall Street to a UK tour, selling out shows in London and Bristol, corto.alto have become synonymous with the rise of Glasgow’s thriving jazz scene.

Thanks to band leader, composer and multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall and his all-star line-up of world-class musicians - including STRATA’s Graham Costello and Mercury-nominated pianist Fergus McCreadie - the collective have championed and grown the scene from the roots up.

Returning from tour to play to a packed home-grown crowd at Glasgow’s Queen Margaret Union, Liam and the collective share the motivation behind their music and their determination to put Glasgow jazz on the map.
