AFC Wimbledon 0-0 Southend United (original) (raw)
Southend United lost ground in the League Two automatic promotion race with a goalless draw at AFC Wimbledon.
Home keeper Joe McDonnell, in his first start of the season, made a succession of fine saves to deny the Shrimpers.
Tom Beere had struck the Southend woodwork with Wimbledon's best effort before the break.
Barry Corr was convinced his shot crossed the Dons' line as he hit the underside of the bar, but his side are now five points off third place.
Southend United manager Phil Brown told BBC Essex:
"I thought we had enough pressure on them in the second half and enough territorial advantage and enough chances to win the game. My knee-jerk reaction is that we've dropped two points.
"I didn't think we had the composure in the final third tonight. We lacked the little bit of quality to get us over the winning line.
"(Barry Corr's shot) looked as if it went back on the angle and normally that's an easy decision to make. The linesman said he couldn't make that match-winning decision by a guess and I agree with him. If you don't know, you don't flag.
"I don't know where the referee was. I've just watched it. It looks like it's over the line but it's inconclusive."
