Leyton Orient 0-1 Stevenage (original) (raw)
Lucas Akins' goal separated the sides in a dour clash between Leyton Orient and Stevenage in League One.
The O's failed to clear James Dunne's free-kick, and Akins was on hand to fire a low, 20-yard drive through a crowded goalmouth and into the net.
Michael Symes' had the hosts' best chance but he headed wide when well-placed to score.
Marcus Haber should have added a second for the visitors but he failed to connect with Darius Charles' cross.

Stevenage manager Gary Smith told BBC Three Counties Radio:

Smith delighted with Akins' impact
"To win a game early on in the season, however it comes, gives everybody that little bit of confidence and gets us moving in the right direction.
"First half, I thought we managed the game well, some good possession, some good choices - when to go long, when to play short.
"When you look at the number of new bodies we've got in the side there's always going to be that odd decision that doesn't quite fit and piece of the puzzle that doesn't quite work.
"But at the moment the guys are doing a fabulous job of keeping the development and progression (of the team) going."
