Colchester United 1-1 Carlisle United (original) (raw)

A late Frankie Kent equaliser rescued hosts Colchester United a point in a 1-1 draw with fellow play-off hopefuls Carlisle United.

Kent stooped to head home from close range in the 84th minute, after Mikael Mandron had helped on fellow substitute Brennan Dickenson's cross in the area.

Carlisle had gone close in the fifth minute when Regan Slater's header was saved at point-blank range by Colchester goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin, who also parried Hallam Hope's shot soon after.

The hosts had a penalty appeal rejected when Courtney Senior tumbled under Gary Liddle's challenge in the box.

But Carlisle edged an even first half and Kent almost diverted Mark Cullen's fierce cross-shot into his own net.

The visitors took a 57th-minute lead through Hope, who turned home smartly from close range despite Ryan Jackson's attempts to keep the ball out on the line after Cullen had helped on Callum O'Hare's cross to pick him out.

Colchester skipper Luke Prosser fired straight at stopper Adam Collin, before Kent's equaliser six minutes from time meant the spoils were shared.
