Northern Ireland U17 star completes Fleetwood Town move (original) (raw)

Barry Baggley has completed a move from Glentoran to Fleetwood Town.

Glentoran midfielder Barry Baggley is the latest local teenager to seal a move to England.

The 16-year-old was last week snapped up by League One side Fleetwood Town, following two successful trial periods.

Baggley, whose father Barry Snr is the manager of Amateur League side Rosario, is a Northern Ireland U17 international and it's that experience that got him noticed by eagle-eyed scouts.

“They saw me playing for Northern Ireland and asked me over for a trial,” he told Belfast Media Group.

“I went over for two weeks and did well, so they brought me back for another two weeks and asked me to sign at the end of it.”

Baggley made the move to England last weekend after putting pen to paper and will immediately set about trying to impress for the club's Under 18 side.

The Turf Lodge lad was part of County Antrim's historic SuperCupNI-winning side of 2017.

Northern Ireland internationals Damien Johnson and Conor McLaughlin have both played for Fleetwood in recent seasons, while Baggley joins NI U17 team-mate Carl Johnston at the club.

Fleetwood are currently managed by former Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton.
