Hypertension Prevention and Treatment
The BIDMC Hypertension Center at Healthcare Associates (HCA) offers state-of-the-art clinical care and research for hypertension (high blood pressure) care and treatment for our patients. Our multidisciplinary team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, medical assistants, and clinical social workers. We specialize in all aspects of the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of high blood pressure, including:
- Evaluating new-onset and secondary causes of hypertension
- Personalized counseling on lifestyle changes to improve blood pressure
- Monitoring and adjusting medication
- Managing resistant or complicated hypertension
- 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM)
- Treatment and evaluation of hypotensive (low blood pressure) disorders such as orthostatic hypotension and postprandial hypotension
- Home or self-monitored blood pressure programs
- Close collaboration and referral to other specialists as needed, including cardiology, nephrology, endocrinology, obstetrics, and sleep medicine

In September 2020, the BIDMC Hypertension Center at HCA was recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) for achieving certification as a Comprehensive Hypertension Center. Our Center is one of only 14 such practices in the nation and the only hypertension center in New England to achieve this designation. AHA-certified centers are nationally recognized as leaders in their field for providing the most up-to-date, effective diagnostic and treatment strategies and leading cutting edge research.
