Kate Bush has chalked up another record by becoming the first female in history to land eight albums simultaneously in the top 40 of the U.K’s Official Albums Chart.
In the new list published Sunday, the revered English singer has two albums in the top 10 (The Whole Story at No. 6, Hounds of Love at No. 9), and a further six spread out from Nos. 20-40. All up, she has a staggering 11 albums in the top 50.

Historically, only the King and the Fab Four have achieved bigger results on the albums chart. Elvis Presley managed 12 entries in the top 40 following his death in 1977, and the Beatles achieved 11 simultaneous top 40 entries with their 2009 album reissues.
Bush’s albums frenzy was ignited by her 22-date Before the Dawn concert series, which kicked off last week at London’s Hammersmith Apollo. Those comeback dates, her first extensive live run in 35 years, sold out in less than 15 minutes.
Kate Bush Announces First String Of Live Dates Since 1979
Kate’s chart feat puts her way out ahead of other leading ladies. Madonna had three albums in the top 40 in 1987, and she featuring heavily on the Who’s That Girl soundtrack which appeared in the top 40 at the time. Following their untimely deaths in 2011 and 2012, respectively, Amy Winehouse and Whitney Houston saw two of their albums simultaneously enter the top 10 and top 75. And Joan Baez was a force on the chart for several weeks in the summer of 1965 with three albums in the top 20.
Bush has a knack for creating chart history. Back in 1978, she became the first female artist to score a U.K. No. 1 on the Official Singles Chart with a self-written song, “Wuthering Heights.” The song went on to top the chart for four weeks, and became the first of her 26 top 40 hits. “Wuthering Heights” remains her most downloaded single, according to the OCC.
