The recent USA Network special “Willie Nelson & Friends: Stars & Guitars” will be released as an audio CD Nov. 5 via Lost Highway Records. Broadcast May 31, the event at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium featured such guests as Sheryl Crow, matchbox twenty, John Bon Jovi, Ray Price, Norah Jones, Vince Gill, and Lee Ann Womack performing some of Nelson’s best-known material and a handful of cover songs.

The 17-track disc opens with a cover of Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth” performed by Nelson, Crow, and Bill Evans, and also features a version of the Rolling Stones’ “Dead Flowers” by Nelson, Hank Williams III, Ryan Adams, and Stones guitarist Keith Richards.

Vocalist Rob Thomas of matchbox twenty joins Nelson on the song “Maria (Shut Up and Kiss Me),” while the whole band backs him on “Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys.” Other highlights include Nelson and Aaron Neville dueting on Hoagy Carmichael’s “Stardust” and Gill’s cover of Nelson’s “Blue Eyes Cryin’ in the Rain.”
