Data for Good Exchange 2019 (original) (raw)
On Sunday, September 15, 2019, we will reconvene in New York City for the 6th edition of the Data for Good Exchange in order to strengthen our community and further these aims. The overall theme for this year’s gathering will be “Data Science for the SDGs” or how data scientists, corporations, policy makers and researchers can collaborate on data science projects that will move us toward achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. On January 1st, 2016, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development — which were adopted by all UN Member States at the historic UN Sustainable Development Summit in September 2015 — officially came into force. With these new Goals that universally apply to all, countries are mobilizing efforts to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change, while ensuring that no one is left behind. We believe that data science can and will play a large role in achieving the Goals.
Since 2014, Bloomberg has hosted an annual conference related to the applications of data science to address problems related to the social good. This forum has brought together participants from across academia, industry, government and NGOs, enabling them to share insights and progress on applying modern machine learning and data science methods to improve civic and social outcomes.
