After her birth her family moved to Saigon in Houston, Texas. She grew up bilingual, but never returned to their native country. She studied at the University of Texas in Austin Communications and Journalism. Then she got a place at South Texas College of Law, but did not stay long in this learning path. During her college years she was approached by a photographer and transferred to an agency. In this way she got her first job in a commercial for McDonald's.
