Film biography, told in a semi-documentary style, of a Russian cipher clerk Igor Gouzenko (Dana Andrews) who went to Canada to work in the Russian Embassy. While there, he uncovered a vast Russian spy ring based in Ottawa. Smuggling crucial documents out of the embassy at great personal risk, he exposed the spies to the Canadian government. He and his wife (Gene Tierney) then defected. The Gouzenkos' story was continued in a 1954 film, "Operation Manhunt." Today, Gouzenko is popularly known as "the man who started the Cold War."
