Margaret Thomas (Jean Smart) has six wonderful children and a loving, caring husband (Robert Pastorelli). The fact that she is unable to perform some of life's basics - reading, adding, cooking - has never prevented her from being a devoted mother or from raising a happy and close-knit family, albeit an unconventional one. Margaret's life is about to change, though, when her husband falls ill and she is left with more responsibility than the authorities think she can handle.
