A clever and determined small man from Morwell, Bruce Williams spent six seasons at Carlton from <1959> to <1964>. Chiefly because of his slight frame (175 cm and just 70 kg), he battled for a regular place in Carlton’s senior team in the early part of his career, but by <1961> he was firmly established as the Blues’ first rover.

He is best remembered for his gutsy effort in the 1962 Grand Final against Essendon. Carlton were well beaten by the Bombers that day, but Williams more than held his own, kicking three of Carlton’s eight goals. The Blues’ champion ruckman John Nicholls said later that Williams was one of the most under-rated players of that era, and often paid tribute to the little bloke’s tenacity.

In all, Bruce played 62 games for Carlton, kicked 56 goals, and was another worthy wearer of our guernsey number 7.
