Dispute leads to shooting near Collinsville, woman faces attempted murder charge (original) (raw)

A dispute in a State Park Place home left a man with a gunshot wound to his chest and a woman he was dating has been arrested on charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery, authorities said.

Edith Caudillo, 27, was being held in the Madison County Jail on Wednesday on the two felonies.

The 31-year-old victim, Sergio Angulo-Peraza, was listed in stable condition in a St. Louis hospital Wednesday, authorities said.

The dispute occurred Tuesday when Caudillo went to a home in the 8900 block of Rene Avene in the State Park Place community near Collinsville to gather some personal items, according to a pretrial detention petition filed by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors allege Caudillo pulled a gun from her waistband and shot Angulo-Peraza in his chest. A surveillance video shows that two shots were fired about five seconds apart, according to court records.

Court records do not list a defense attorney for Caudillo, who was arrested at the scene.

Prosecutors have filed a petition to have Caudillo held in jail prior to her trial. A hearing date has not yet been set.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect and victim were known to each other, as they were in a dating relationship,” stated a news release from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies were called at about 5:37 p.m. Tuesday and received assistance from the Collinsville police officers.
