A 19-year old Cahokia Heights man has been charged with the first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of another teen in his vehicle.

A 19-year old Cahokia Heights man has been charged with the first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of another teen in his vehicle.

The charging document from St. Clair County State’s Attorney James Gomric charges David Hodges, of Cahokia Heights, with 18-year-old Damonta Mosley’s murder.

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was activated to investigate the shooting, which occurred in the 2400 block of Renois Lane near Cahokia Heights.

According to Lt. James Hendricks of the the St. Clair County Sheriff’s department, deputies were dispatched to the scene at about 7:19 p.m. on Sept. 9. They found Mosley inside a vehicle with at least one gunshot wound, unconscious and not breathing. Mosley was transported to Saint Louis University Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to a Major Case Squad release.

Lt. Shane Brown of the Belleville Police Department led an investigation that involved 21 area law enforcement officers from 16 agencies. They followed more than 100 leads, according to a release from the Major Case Squad.

The charging document says Hodge’s release “poses a real and present threat to the safety of any person in the community.”

Hodges used a gun to shoot and kill Mosley, the document said.
