A partially naked man accused of breaking into a home was shot by a Missouri homeowner, police say.

It happened Tuesday, Sept. 17, at a home in St. Louis County and led to the arrest of a 47-year-old man, according to a criminal complaint.

Officers said two homeowners were awakened in their beds with the man “standing over them naked from the waist down.”

One of the homeowners grabbed a pistol, then pushed the accused intruder and ordered him to leave, police said.

“You’ll have to shoot me,” the accused intruder said while lunging at the homeowner, according to the complaint.

That’s what the homeowner did, firing their weapon once and striking the man in the chest, police said.

“Alright man, don’t shoot me no more,” the accused intruder then said before leaving the home, according to investigators.

Officers said they found the man in the backyard of the home with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault and first-degree burglary, court records show.

The homeowner was within his rights to shoot the accused intruder, St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell said in a statement to KSDK.

“Missouri law clearly provides homeowners with the right to protect themselves, particularly while on their property,” Bell told KSDK.

Police told KSDK the man entered the home through an unlocked back door.

Bond for the arrested man was set at $250,000, court records show.
