Pokljuka
The high karst plateau of Pokljuka is the largest forested area in the Triglav National Park. It is mostly covered by spruce forests, which grow between 1,000 and 1,500 metres above sea level.

To Pokljuka by bus from Bohinj and Bled
Instead of taking your own car, visit Pokljuka with an organised shuttle service during the summer and winter seasons. In summer, the bus from Bohinj is also equipped with a trailer for transporting bicycles.

The traffic calming measures in Pokljuka are part of the activities of the VrH Julijcev project, which contributes to the preservation of suitable habitats for sensitive animal and plant species and fragile ecosystems.
A paradise for outdoor enthusiasts - in all seasons
Pokljuka is a starting point for walks, with interesting shorter and easy walks around Rudno Polje and Goreljek. Instructive circular trail around the Goreljek peat bog. Above the plateau, in the vicinity of the Klek and Lipanca mountains, archaeologists have found many sites dating back to Late Antiquity – this is where the Iron Trail leads, with an information point on the Klek mountain. Most of the mountaineers are attracted by the mountain trails to the Lipanca mountain with the popular Blejska koča, and to the peaks of Debela Peč, Mrežce and Viševnik. Rudné Polje is also the starting point for the popular mountain trail leading from Pokljuka via Vele Polje to Triglav.

THE JULIANA BIKE MOUNTAIN BIKING LOOP is the younger sister of the Juliana Trail and is basically the part of the Slovenian Mountain Biking Route; however, it functions as a loop and is an independent trail that runs along the edges of the Julian Alps.

A short and easy walk takes you to Vodnikov razglednik Viewpoint that offers a wonderful views of the Lower and Upper Bohinj Valleys, the lake basin and the surrounding mountains.
JULIANA TRAIL: stage 6 Goreljek on Pokljuka – Stara Fužina
The stage runs through the forests and pastures of Pokljuka, and descends to Gorjuše, Koprivnik and Jereka in the Upper Bohinj Valley. From there, the trail continues through Češnjica, Srednja vas and Studor to Stara Fužina.

The Zajamniki pasture is recognised by its panoramic location on the sunny side of the Pokljuka plateau. The cottages and stalls are reminiscent of an extended village, because they are built in an arch along the main road.

GORELJEK PEAT BOG
Pokljuka is extremely important for its high peat bogs. Peat bogs this far south in Europe can only be found here.
Study trail and the significance of peat bogs
Peat bogs on the Pokljuka plateau are located in the area which is most heavily impacted by people. Sacrificing one peat bog for educational purposes is the price for preserving others. The trail runs around the peat bog which is located in the middle of an inhabited area. This theme trail enables you to safely and individually see the peat bogs which belong among the most preserved natural areas in Europe. Information boards present you the flora and fauna in this area, the Pokljuka plateau in the past and today, general features about the bog and other activities in the surrounding area.
How is safe walking on the peat bog ensured?
Wooden platforms are located in wet parts, and they enable safe walking. An information board at the entrance, i.e. on the northern side of the bog near the chapel, warns about appropriate conduct.

In optimal snow conditions, Bohinj turns into a cross-country skiing paradise. In total, there is more than 70 km of cross-country skiing trails in the Upper and Lower Bohinj valleys, Pokljuka and Soriška Planina.
The Pokljuka bus will run from 24. 6. until 17. 9. 2023 and will take you in a sustainable way in an unspoiled Alpine environment. The bus can also carry bicycles.
