'The Walking Dead' is filming in Boston, and it needs extras (original) (raw)
Think you have what it takes to play a zombie on "The Walking Dead: Dead City"?
AMC is seeking extras to play zombies, soldiers, and post-apocalyptic survivors in Season 2 of "The Walking Dead: Dead City," which will be filming in the Boston area from April to July. Gene Page/AMC
Do you bear an uncanny resemblance to the undead? Then you may be the perfect candidate to play a zombie extra on the upcoming season of AMC’s series “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” which begins filming in the Boston area next month.
Kendall Cooper Casting posted an open casting notice for extras on Wednesday, asking for people in the Boston area of all ages and ethnicities to play “walkers, soldiers, post apocalyptic survivors, and various other extra roles” during Season 2 of the “Walking Dead” spinoff.
Though the casting notice didn’t offer specifics about filming locations, a source familiar with the production said that the town of Randolph would be one of several in the Boston area used for filming, which is set to run from April through July.
Besides zombies, AMC is looking for “athletes and people with military or law enforcement experience” to play soldiers, people with “weathered faces” to play post-apocalyptic survivors, and people who are “very thin, tall and have flexible/available schedules” to play walkers (AMC’s name for zombies).
Extras should be expected to be available for 12+ hours in a given day. Some extras will be asked to perform one or two days’ work, while others may be chosen for recurring roles throughout the show’s three-month production.
Locals interested in applying can submit applications through Kendall Cooper Casting’s website.
“The Walking Dead: Dead City” is a spinoff centered around Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), two characters from “The Walking Dead.” Season 1, which premiered in June 2023, was filmed in New Jersey, and saw Maggie and Negan facing a new foe known as the Croat (Željko Ivanek).
Local film professionals will be hoping “The Walking Dead: Dead City” lasts longer than AMC’s previous shows filmed in the Boston area. The dark comedy “Kevin Can F*** Himself,” which filmed in the Boston area in 2020 and 2021, ended after only two seasons. That’s still better than “Invitation to a Bonfire,” a prestige drama starring Tatiana Maslany (“Stronger”) that was abandoned by AMC due to company-wide budget cuts after four of the six episodes had already been completed.
