“Good Morning America” Correspondent Rachel Scott Is Engaged! (original) (raw)
Love is in the air for another member of the Good Morning America crew! Just four months after co-anchor Robin Roberts tied the knot with Amber Laign, senior congressional correspondent Rachel Scott has announced her engagement to Elliot Smith. Roberts broke the happy news on the air on Monday, January 8, 2024. “Big news from our GMA family,” the co-anchor shared, before the camera cut to Scott, who was broadcasting live from Washington, D.C. “To kick off 2024, our Rachel Scott is engaged!”
According to the reporter, the proposal was a complete surprise—in fact, she thought she’d accidentally stumbled into another couple’s private moment! “I’ve got to admit, this one was a total surprise,” said Scott. “When I saw that gazebo with all those rose petals and flowers, I actually thought it was there for someone else and that we were going to ruin someone else’s engagement. It turned out to be my own. You said yes to marriage this time last year, Robin, and I’m so excited to say yes to marriage this year. So please guys, send me all your newlywed, all your engagement tips—I’m taking it all!”
Roberts says she’s happy to oblige the newly-engaged duo. “I can actually give advice now,” said Roberts, who told Scott that she was “already glowing.” The bride-to-be followed up the on-air announcement with a few photos of the surprise moment on Instagram, which showed off Smith’s elaborate, flower-filled proposal setup. Based on the post, Smith popped the question in Dana Point, California, in front of a gazebo at sunset; he used a custom illustrated pamphlet which outlined the highlights of the pair’s relationship, from their first date to the sweet proposal. “YES!” Scott captioned the post, along with a heart and ring emoji. The images also showed off the correspondent’s engagement ring, which appears to be an oval diamond set on a platinum pavé band.
Scott later shared Roberts’ announcement on X to express her excitement for the wedding journey ahead. “Can’t stop smiling — All the love in 2024,” she wrote. “So excited to say YES to marriage — & so grateful to my @GMA family for the special shout-out this morning.”
