Matty Healy recently made headlines after Taylor Swift, his ex-girlfriend, released her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, in April 2024; many of the singer's new tracks allegedly discussed her short-lived romance with The 1975 frontman, which ended in June 2023. Now, Healy's love life is in the news again, though, this time, it doesn't have anything to do with Swift. The musician is officially engaged to model Gabbriette Bechtel.

On June 11, 2024, after the couple attended friend Charli XCX’s Brat show in Brooklyn, Bechtel announced the news by posting a photo on her Instagram Story of her new sparkler, a five-carat, cushion-cut black diamond with a halo setting and a pavé band that Zack Stone of jewelry retailer Steven Stone predicts cost about $15,000. “MARRYING THE 1975 IS VERY BRAT,” she wrote on the image, followed by a tag to Healy’s Instagram account. Healy also reposted the photo on his own Story. After uploading the snap of her new bling, Bechtel posted a mirror picture of herself holding up her left ring finger, flaunting the large stone.

The following morning, Healy’s mother, actress Denise Welch, confirmed the couple’s new relationship status, noting that she first found out about their engagement a few weeks ago. She wasn’t privy to the Instagram announcement before it happened, however. “They went over to see their friends Charli and George in New York, and I woke up this morning to the fact they’ve put it on Instagram. Instagram official ... He's got engaged to Gabriella Bechtel—Gabbriette she's known as. Black diamond; he had it made for her. I couldn't be more thrilled. We couldn't be happier. She is everything I would want in a daughter-in-law. I'm thrilled.” Although we aren’t exactly sure when Healy got down on one knee, according to People, Bechtel was first spotted wearing the dark gemstone last month.

Rumors of Healy and Bechtel’s romance first surfaced when the two were spotted locking lips in September 2023 in New York City before attending an event in Brooklyn together a few days later. While speaking with Homme Girls, a clothing business, the model revealed that she and Healy had been trying to meet one another for four years before Healy visited her in Los Angeles. “We’ve been in love ever since,” she said. Bechtel also shared that she and her now-fiancé’s ideal date night is ordering takeout and playing Fortnite in bed.

Healy’s engagement comes a year after his high-profile relationship with Swift ended. Shortly after Swift and Alwyn ended their six-year union, the artist rekindled her romance with Healy. In her new album, Swift hints at how Healy supposedly made false promises before ghosting her a few weeks after they officially started dating. Two months later, Healy began seeing Bechtel, and Swift is now currently in a relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce.
