Las Palmas, provincia (province) in the comunidad autónoma (autonomous community) of the eastern Canary Islands, Spain. Las Palmas province consists of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and a few smaller islands. The city of Las Palmas, on the island of Gran Canaria, is the capital of the province. Tourism and a fishing industry dominate the economy. Area 1,570 square miles (4,066 square km). Pop. (2007 est.) 1,042,131.
