Scenic Byways In Arizona
The Grand Canyon State
While your first thought when considering tourist locations in Arizona may be Grand Canyon National Park, there’s more to the state than meets the eye. Known for its hot summers and mild winters, Arizona is the only state that does not follow daylight savings time.
Arizona was the 48th state to join the Union, making it the last of the contiguous states. During the colonization of North America, Arizona was part of Spanish territory, until it became a part of independent Mexico in 1821.
After the Mexican-American war, a large portion of the area that is now Arizona became part of the United States in 1848, though it was not granted statehood until 1912.
Exploring Arizona
While Arizona, in general, is a dry, desert state, northern Arizona is home to forests of pine, Douglas firs, and spruce trees, as well as mountain ranges, deep canyons, and areas with significant snow in the winter.
Southern Arizona is known for its desert climate and hot temperatures, as well as breathtaking geological features.
