Centre for Deliberative Democracy - University of Canberra (original) (raw)
Welcome to the Centre for Deliberative Democracy! We are a world-leading research centre dedicated to advancing scholarly and applied research in deliberative governance and democratic innovations. Our research focuses on how deliberation—inclusive, reasoned, and reflective communication—can tackle some of the most pressing challenges democracies face today, including political polarisation, declining trust in institutions, the emergence of generative AI, far-right extremism and the climate crisis.
We work alongside governments and civil society seeking to advance citizen engagement, enhance public discourse and strengthen democratic resilience in Australia and around the world. We offer world-class research training for PhD, Masters, and Honoursstudents, and master classes for practitioners. We run the Deliberative Democracy Summer School, and host a seminar series on deliberative democracy and related topics. We are also home to the flagship journal of the field, the Journal of Deliberative Democracy.
We welcome year-round expressions of interest from prospective PhD, Master and Honours students, practitioners seeking masterclasses or tailored training programs, and visiting academics.
I invite you to explore our work further and join us in shaping more inclusive, informed and resilient democracies. You can contact us at delibdem@canberra.edu.au
