Source: Chandler Vaudrin 'drawing serious consideration' in NBA Draft second round (original) (raw)

Chandler Vaudrin’s NBA dreams might become reality as Thursday’s draft nears.

According to a source close to the Lake High School alum, Vaudrin “is drawing serious consideration in the 45 to 60 range of the draft.”

The source went on to say “it’s more likely than not that Chandler will hear his name on Thursday.”

The draft’s first round will air live on ABC and ESPN, starting at 8 p.m. The second round will be shown only on ESPN.

Boston Celtics recently worked out Chandler Vaudrin

The 24-year-old Vaudrin, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound point guard who starred at mid-major Winthrop University the past two seasons, has worked out for eight NBA teams, most recently the Boston Celtics on Tuesday. He worked out for the hometown Cleveland Cavaliers back on July 2.

There are 60 total picks in the draft. No Stark County product has been selected in the NBA Draft since CJ McCollum went 10th overall to the Portland Trail Blazers in 2013.

Winthrop's Chandler Vaudrin looks to move the ball as he is defended by Campbell's Ricky Clemons in the Big South championship game on Sunday, March 7, 2021.

“I’m blessed to be in this situation,” Vaudrin told the Repository last week. “If my name gets called, fantastic. If it doesn’t, it’s not the end of the world.

“There still are plenty of other options. I think at the end of the day, I will be in the NBA this upcoming year in some fashion. We just don’t know what the label will be.”

Chandler Vaudrin starred at Walsh University before becoming Big South Player of the Year at Winthrop

Vaudrin, a 2016 Lake graduate who spent his first two college seasons at Division II Walsh University, is coming off a senior season that included him being named Big South Player of the Year and leading Winthrop to the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 12.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 6.9 assists.

Vaudrin’s perimeter shooting is a work in progress. His passing and playmaking are most definitely not.

“It’s an elite skill, and he’s elite at it,” the source said of Vaudrin’s ability to find teammates.

If he goes undrafted, Vaudrin could have several options, including a two-way contract or an Exhibit 10 deal. Whatever happens Thursday, the Aug. 8-17 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas likely will be a destination for Vaudrin to continue showcasing himself.
