Police have charged a man in two stabbings in Saskatoon, after another man allegedly gave police a false confession in connection with the attacks.

Albert Scott, 26, made his first appearance in provincial court on Wednesday. He's charged with manslaughter in the death of Kiefer Kitchemonia-Strongquill, 25, on Feb. 3, and with aggravated assault in the stabbing of another man the same day.

The two victims showed up at St. Paul's Hospital suffering from stab wounds. Kitchemonia-Strongquill died of his wounds, but the other man survived.

According to court documents, Avyn Ahenakew allegedly lied to police on Feb. 7, saying he had committed the crimes. He was initially charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault as a result.

On Feb. 26, police replaced those charges.

Ahenakew, 18, is now charged with public mischief and obstruction of justice for allegedly misleading police.

He's also charged with being an accessory after the fact to manslaughter and with being an accessory after the fact to aggravated assault.

Both Ahenakew and Scott are scheduled to return to Saskatoon provincial court on Friday.
