10 Fastest DC Heroes Who Don't Use The Speed Force (original) (raw)

In the DC Universe, no one is faster than the Flash Family. Thanks to their connection to the Speed Force, the Fastest Family Alive can move at speeds up to and beyond the speed of light, travel through time, and visit other Earths in the Multiverse. The Flashes are so fast, they have even outrun death.

While you need super speed to be a member of the Flash Family, not every hero with super speed is a part of the Flash Family, because not every hero with super speed connects to the Speed Force. Some heroes gain their speed from magic, others have it thanks to their alien physiology. These heroes can move far faster than any normal human, but compared to the likes of the Flash Family, they may as well be standing still.

10 Thanks to his Kryptonian DNA, Superman can move at speeds that are faster than the human eye can comprehend

2-superman DC Comics

He may have been the first superhero, but that doesn't make Superman the fastest. Thanks to his Kryptonian DNA, Superman can move at speeds that are faster than the human eye can comprehend, giving him the ability to travel around the world in mere moments. But even though the Man of Steel is faster than a speeding bullet, he's nothing compared to The Flash.

Over the years, Superman and Flash have had a number of races, often coming down to a photo-finish. However, as Barry Allen points out in Flash: Rebirth, those races were for charity. In a real race, any of The Flashes would be able to beat Superman without breaking a sweat.

9 the Green Lanterns can only move as fast as they can think

Green Lantern Corps feature

Thanks to the power rings that they are given by the Guardians, Green Lanterns can fly at speeds that are nearly as fast as light. When they need to get somewhere even faster, a Green Lantern can even open a wormhole to locations millions of light-years away.

And despite the nearly instant ability to travel across the galaxy, Green Lanterns still aren't as fast as The Flashes because the Green Lanterns can only move as fast as they can think, and The Flashes can think — and move — far faster than any Green Lantern.

8 Supergirl can fly to Pluto & back before anyone would even notice she was gone

supergirl

Like her cousin, Supergirl has the Kryptonian ability to gain powers under the radiation of a yellow sun. Along with flight, invulnerability, and super-strength, Supergirl can move at speeds that are all but unimaginable. But just like Superman, Supergirl is nothing compared to the Flash Family when it comes to super speed.

Supergirl can fly to Pluto and back before anyone would even notice she was gone, but to The Flashes, her quick journey across the solar system would seem like an agonizingly long trip. Impulse would almost certainly want to stop for snacks in the few minutes that would pass.

7 With his Cosmic Skis, the Black Racer is able to move at amazing speeds

Black Racer DC Comics

One of the New Gods, the Black Racer was created when Darkseid captured an aspect of Death and bent it to his will by connecting that piece to a sentient host. With the ability to kill anyone or anything, the Black Racer quickly became the most dangerous of the New Gods. He even became a source of concern for Darkseid himself.

With his Cosmic Skis, the Black Racer is able to move at amazing speeds, ensuring that he can catch up to any target, or at least, almost any target. As seen in Final Crisis, the Black Racer is fast, but The Flashes are faster, always staying a step ahead of him.

6 Wonder Woman can move quick enough to dodge or block bullets

Wonder Woman Immortal Future State

The daughter of Hippolyta and Zeus, Wonder Woman has powers that rival even Superman. Thanks to the divine empowerment gifted to her by the gods, Diana is strong, invulnerable, and astonishingly fast, but not nearly as fast as any member of the Flash Family.

Diana can move quick enough to dodge or block bullets, and she can keep up with Flash when the speedster is running at his cruising speed, but if the Fastest Man Alive turns up the juice, he'll leave the Themysciran in the dust.

5 Shazam gets his speed from the Greek deity Hermes, the messenger of the gods

Shazam feature

Thanks to his powers being magic-based, Shazam can go toe-to-toe with Superman and is likely faster than the Man of Steel, but that doesn't mean he can move as fast as Flash can.

Shazam can fly at the speed of light, which makes him faster than almost any other hero, but both Barry Allen and Wally West are able to move at speeds faster than light, meaning that while they would have to push themselves, at least two Flashes are faster than Shazam.

4 While J'onn is fast, his speed doesn't come anywhere near the abilities of the members of the Flash Family

Martian Manhunter DC Comics

The last of his race, J'onn J'onnz the Martian Manhunter survived the destruction of his planet and was accidentally brought to Earth by Dr. Erdel. Dr. Erdel suffered a deadly heart attack upon seeing the alien stranded on his newly-adopted planet.

The Martian Manhunter is best known for being one of the strongest telepaths in the DC Universe, but thanks to his Martian physiology he also has super strength and super speed. While J'onn is fast, his speed doesn't come anywhere near the abilities of the members of the Flash Family.

3 While the limits of Apollo's speed aren't clear, he has never shown the ability to move as fast as the members of the Flash Family

Apollo DC Comics

A hesitant superhero who doesn't like the spotlight, Apollo is nearly as powerful as Superman but prefers to leave the heroics to his boyfriend Midnighter. Like the Man of Tomorrow, Apollo absorbs the ultraviolet radiation of the sun and turns it into the ability to fly, have super strength, and a whole list of other powers, including superspeed.

While the limits of Apollo's speed aren't clear, the hero named after the Greek god of the sun has never shown the ability to move as fast as the members of the Flash Family.

2 Red Tornado is a being of pure wind power contained within an android shell

Red Tornado DC Comics

Created by the evil genius T.O. Morrow, the Red Tornado is an android that was possessed by the Tornado Champion, the good personality of the Rannian tornado entity Ulthoon. Over the years, Red Tornado has been a member of the Justice League, a mentor to Young Justice, and the personification of a force of nature alongside Swamp Thing and Firestorm.

Because Red Tornado is a being of pure wind power contained within an android shell, it can move at speeds far greater than the average human but is still not nearly as fast as the members of the Flash Family.

1 Ultra Boy gained his powers when an energy beast swallowed him whole & irradiated his body

Ultra Boy Solo Origins of the Legionnaires

A member of the Legion of Super-Heroes and a citizen of Rimbor, Ultra Boy gained his powers when an energy beast swallowed him whole and irradiated his body. Due to being eaten by the energy beast, Ultra Boy gained a number of superpowers, including super speed.

Unlike his teammate Superboy, Ultra Boy can only use one power at a time. Ultra Boy can run and fly as fast as Superboy and is one of the fastest members of the Legion, but if he were to take on one of The Flashes, his speed wouldn't be of much help.
