Inside Out 2 Director Reveals Potential Story Ideas for Third Film (original) (raw)

Riley and her emotions are ready to hit the big screen once more in the animated movie Inside Out 2. While the film will feature new locations and emotions in Riley's brain, director Kelsey Mann says several ideas didn't make the final cut, which is why he's hoping for a third installment.

Speaking to ComicBook ahead of the Inside Out 2 premiere, Mann explained how the movie's premise offers so many story ideas. "I love this world. It's such a great world to play in, and ideas just kind of come from playing in this world, both for locations and characters," he said. "There [are] so many ideas not only from the first film but especially in this one, where I'm like, 'That's a really fun, clever idea. I don't know how it fits into this particular story, but it should be used at some point.'"

The latest video for Pixar’s Inside Out 2 shows Ayo Edebiri having fun voicing Envy, who’s one of Riley’s newest emotions in the sequel.

The director also shared details about an idea that had to be cut from the film. The concept was a park called Procrastination Land that was always under construction and never ready to open."One of my favorites is a location that we came up with called Procrastination Land," Mann continued. "This is the land I definitely have, especially as a teen. It was a land which had a big sign that said 'Procrastination Land,' and then it said 'Coming Soon.'"

Several Ideas Didn't Make The Final Cut

"And Anger was like, 'When are they gonna start building that place?! It just keeps sitting there!' They haven't made any movement on it,'" Mann added, explaining how the various emotions would have felt about the park. "It's such a funny idea. We had trouble figuring out why in this particular story. I won't tell you everything about it. There's some other stuff about it that's really funny. So I'm like, 'This has to be used somehow in the future.'"

Pixar's creative chief officer reveals why the legendary animation studio is putting less of themselves in their upcoming slate of sequels.

Inside Out 2 will see the return of the five core emotions from the first movie, which include Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Tony Hale), and Disgust (Liza Lapira). The sequel will introduce new emotions like Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adele Exarchopoulos), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser).

Pixar has also confirmed that the animated coming-of-age film will be in theaters for at least 100 days as the company wants to move away from releasing movies on streaming entirely. "I hope that we will not release another feature film on Disney+," Pixar President Jim Morris explained. "If we do more stuff for Disney+, it should be a series."
