Marvel's Avengers: 5 Villains We Can't Wait To Fight (& 5 We'd Love To Play As) (original) (raw)
With Marvel's Avengers taking a deep-end dive into the massive pool that is the Marvel universe, there are so many villains that have the potential to pop up in the game. Not only is the game going to have a cinematic story at launch but the developers have spoken about more stories being added through free DLC.
There are the villains that are likely to make for outstanding boss fights but in this world where Inhumans are being threatened, it could lead to an unlikely alliance between the Avengers and other villains of the Marvel universe thus allowing players to take control of them.
10 Fight: Ronan The Accuser
Kamala Khan's room and attire in Marvel's Avengers show her admiration for characters like Captain Marvel who tends to face off against the more cosmic villains of the Marvel universe. With the more than likely introduction of Captain Marvel as a playable character in the future, it's likely we'll see some of her villains.
Ronan the Accuser would allow for a welcomed break from the armies of robots and give the Avengers alien threats that could devastate the Earth. Combat with him could also be more interesting than in the movies where he mostly just monologued and got wrecked by the heroes whereas, in a game, his hammer and training as an Accuser could make for a challenging boss fight.
9 Play As: Venom
With the recent reveal that Spider-Man will be one of the first DLC characters (but only for PS4/PS5 players) for Marvel's Avengers, it's only inevitable that fans will be asking for more characters from Spider-Man's neck of the woods.
Whether it's the classic Eddie Brock version of Venom or Flash Thompson as Agent Venom, this character could add lots of flashy abilities using the alien symbiote and a darker tone since Venom is one of the darkest characters in Marvel's roster.
8 Fight: The Mandarin
It's safe to assume that the world will never see Iron Man face off against the true Mandarin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe which is a shame because the Mandarin remains one of the character's most iconic foes in the comic book world. However, there is a chance to have Nolan North's Tony Stark encounter this Marvel villain.
Technology versus science: the Mandarin and his ten rings of mystic power could lead to a DLC story that keeps players on their toes with new magic-based enemies, boss fights, and new regions to explore. Perhaps add even more character development for characters like Tony Stark.
7 Play As: Whiplash
With Iron Man villains, it's difficult to choose which would be the best to play as since so many could provide great gameplay experiences like Ghost, Living Laser, or even Crimson Dynamo. However, in terms of gameplay, the one who could provide the most unique experience as an Iron Man villain is Whiplash.
Imagine the Blades of Chaos gameplay from the recent God Of War game mixed with the combat system created for the Avengers combined with a variety of unlockable combos and special moves, Whiplash could be one of the most fun characters to play in the whole game.
6 Fight: Hela, The Goddess Of Death
The many regions on Earth are always nice but perhaps it would be nice to trek off-world much like in Destiny which this game was heavily inspired by in the first place. Asgard could make for some of the most fun and visually stunning locations to explore, as shown with Marvel's Ultimate Alliance on the PS2.
So what threat could force Thor to bring his friends to Asgard for assistance? None other than the Goddess Of Death herself, perhaps trying to conquer Asgard for herself. Not only could her powers lead to an insanely difficult boss fight but it could also lead to encounters with the likes of Fenrir, Skurge the Executioner, and Amora the Enchantress.
5 Play As: Loki
The God Of Mischief has become a bit of an icon in the Marvel universe over the years with a variety of different roles: villain, neutral party, or even an anti-hero in some cases. The movies have certainly helped in raising the character's popularity and with Tom Hiddleston returning to the role in his own Disney+ series, adding Loki as a playable character would make great promotion.
Combine that with his trickster abilities, Asgardian strength, and the banter with Thor, he (or she depending on the route they take with the character) could make for one of the more fun DLC characters to play as.
4 Fight: Doctor Doom
The Avengers and more than likely the rest of Earth's heroes are all in disarray due to what happened on A-Day. It may have led to A.I.M. and George Tarleton practically controlling the world but someone like Doctor Doom would just need A.I.M. weakened just enough to make his move.
A Doctor Doom expansion could lead to Latveria becoming a new map for Warzone missions. Visually, Latveria could be one of the more unique areas to explore with friends online plus if the game introduces Doctor Doom, then the Fantastic Four are certain to be DLC characters as well.
3 Play As: Namor
Technically the first Marvel character ever made, Namor is a very multi-faceted character that has been described as a hero, anti-hero, and villain all in one but in recent years, his character has stuck as a darker anti-hero who had been a threat to characters like the Fantastic Four and the Avengers.
With A.I.M. attacking Inhumans, they might also be a threat to Namor and his people. So, his alliance with the Avengers would be a cape of the enemy of one's enemy is a friend. Combine his darker ways of thinking with his incredible power and one has the makings of a character with a lot of possibilities.
2 Fight: Bolivar Trask And The Sentinels
The robotic enforcements and objective of A.I.M. are not that different than what Bolivar Trask brings about for his crusade against mutants. Perhaps, Bolivar Trask collaborated with George Tarleton also known as M.O.D.O.K. to create the androids that the players battle throughout missions.
With Tarleton taken out by the Avengers, Bolivar Trask could take control of A.I.M. to finish what he started by going bigger and better via the creation of the iconic behemoth sized robots known as the Sentinels. This could lead to some tense boss fights with the towering androids and could also bring about the introduction of X-Men characters to play as, including...
1 Play As: Magneto
A.I.M.'s actions would not only be a threat to Inhumans but mutant-kind as well. A fun twist would be the appearance of Magneto which would immediately make the players think he is going to be the big boss fight for a new expansion but instead, he chooses to ally himself with the Avengers to help the Inhumans and mutants alike.
Erik Lensherr (or Max Eisenhardt if you will) and his mastery over magnetism could lead to devastating special abilities and a unique combat system that's different from most of the game's roster. Magneto's presence could also lead to the introduction of other iconic X-Men villains to fight.
