Every Death in Masters of the Universe: Revelation (original) (raw)

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the first part of Season 1 of Masters of the Universe: Revelation, now available on Netflix.

Showrunner Kevin Smith didn't lie when he promised there would be a lot of deaths in Masters of the Universe: Revelation. It adds way more gravitas to Teela's journey as she tries to reforge the Sword of Power and bring magic back to heal Eternia, placing a more mature spin on the previous cartoons.

With that in mind, let's dissect who perishes in the five episodes so far.

Faker

In the opening episode, "The Power of Grayskull," He-Man brings some of Snake Mountain's goons for the Sorceress to imprison. However, it's a ruse as it's actually Skeletor and Evil-Lyn in disguise. As for this He-Man, it's not the hero but the evil robot imitating him known as Faker. He tries to grab Sorceress from the back, but she fights back as Skeletor's forces begin attacking.

Sorceress eventually encases herself in a mystical shield, but Faker keeps pounding away as the villains know her power is stretched between fighting the army outside and protecting herself. Luckily, she contacts Prince Adam telepathically and he dispatches Eternos' army. Man-at-Arms swiftly arrives to protect the Sorceress, using his wrist laser to slice Faker down the middle in a brutal fatality.

Moss Man

Skeletor's objective is to get to the chamber below the castle to access the Hall of Wisdom and an orb that contains all the magic of the universe, which was used to create Eternia first and then other planets. It powers Grayskull, He-Man and the cosmos in general, so Skeletor wants to harness it to become the ultimate god.

However, Moss Man is the essence of the garden protecting the chamber. But as he wraps the villain up in vines a la DC's Swamp Thing, Skeletor uses his dark energy from the Havoc Staff and burns Moss Man alive. It's a heartbreaking kill, especially hearing Moss Man's screams. As He-Man and Teela stand stunned with the elemental's death, Skeletor rubs salt in the wounds, joking about clearing out the vines.

He-Man

He-Man in Masters of the Universe: Revelation

An enraged He-Man stabs Skeletor with his sword, but again, it's a deception, because Skeletor is actually up against the Heart. He allows the sword to go through him as it's really a key, opening up the Heart and allowing the orb to be exposed. Skeletor then uses his staff to smash the orb to release the energy of creation.

He-Man realizes that if he calls down the Power of Grayskull, he can form a protective bubble and contain the energy. He's the only one strong enough to accomplish this, but the blast disintegrates him, leaving Teela and Co. crushed as they've lost their champion.

Skeletor

As he's trapped in the bubble as well, Skeletor gets disintegrated too. It leaves Lyn without a purpose as she goes about forging her new destiny now that she's gotten her agency back. It also creates a civil war of sorts, with Tri-Klops and Trap Jaw turning Skeletor's base into a cult, worshipping technology in the form of Motherboard.

However, Skeletor has a contingency plan as Part 1's finale, "The Forge at Forest Forever," would show, as he's hidden the last vestige of his essence in Lyn's wand-staff. It allows him to corrupt her to get the two halves of the Sword of Power back. It proves Skeletor always has a plan, including cheating death itself.

Orko

Years after Adam's death, Teela's abandoned the kingdom as she's angered over the lies. However, Lyn and Sorceress hire her to reforge the sword. She ends up recruiting her dad, Man-at-Arms, and a sick Orko. Ironically, the mystical journey starts to empower Orko again, not to mention his time with Lyn makes him believe he can be a hero too and buck destiny.

It ends in tragedy, though, when the Skeletor-like overlord of Subternia tries to trap the heroes before they can escape to Preternia in "Land of the Dead." Orko holds the villain off using his magical binds, and while Lyn and Co. try to save him, they don't have enough power. Orko does, though, and tells them he's no longer afraid, creating an explosion to kill the demon. It pushes them through the gate but he dies in the blast. Later on, with the portal closed, Teela, He-Man and Lyn pay respect at a grave in Preternia.

Roboto

In this finale, Roboto, the bot that Man-at Arms built, which copied his memories, is the key to reforging the sword. With his 'father' back at the castle protecting Sorceress from Tri-Klops' cult, the bot locks down King Grayskull's fortress in this heroic afterlife and turns it into a giant furnace.

With his cosmic-powered core, the last ember of magic Sorceress gave to Lyn and the power of Grayskull in Paradise, Roboto creates a huge blast that meshes the half from Subternia and the one Prince Adam has, reforming the Sword of Power. Sadly, the energy is lethal and fries Roboto's circuits. It's a sentimental death as he admits that he feels fear, but the fact that an artificial intelligence could feel makes him human, and more "miracle" than machine.

Prince Adam... Again

Prince Adam transforms into He-Man in Masters of the Universe: Revelation

Teela and her team head back to the castle as Grayskull's tower has a gateway to reality, with Adam opting to join them. He's warned, as this is unnatural, he may not ever be allowed back into Paradise. He takes the risk, however, as he can't leave Teela by herself. It repairs their friendship but as Adam gets to the castle, holds the sword and is about to call the power down, he's impaled from the back.

It's Skeletor, who has emerged from Lyn's staff, using his own staff to leave the prince wounded. As Adam bleeds out, the finale concludes implying that he's dead again, with Skeletor absorbing the power and becoming a true Master of the Universe.

Executive produced by Kevin Smith, the beautifully animated first five episodes of Masters of the Universe: Revelation are now available to stream on Netflix.
