10 Ways The Snyderverse Can Repair The DCEU (original) (raw)
ZackSnyder's Justice League was finally released over a week ago and the hype is still incredibly high. From the 4:3 aspect ratio to the much better storytelling, the 4-hour and 2-minute long movie won back the hearts of many DC fans after a few disappointing installments of the franchise over recent years.
Despite the film's early success and the incredible love from fans, it is still likely that DC will decide against #RestoreTheSnyderVerse and carry on with its original plan, but Snyder's vision for the future of the DCEU has a lot of potential and given the pretty underwhelming films like the original Justice League from 2017 and Wonder Woman 1984, maybe letting Snyder take control of DC's future is a good idea.
10 Snyder Finally Made Cyborg An Interesting & Important Character
A big complaint of the original Justice League was the lack of character development for the so-called outsiders and newbies the Flash and Cyborg. Instead, Snyder made Cyborg as he called it the "heart of the movie," where fans were able to see his teenage years as a football star, his tragic accident, and the rest of his life living in the shadows, hiding from the world.
His relationship with his father and the journey he goes on to ultimately sacrifice his life to save humanity was one of the most important parts of the movie and makes viewers question why Ray Fisher's role was so small in the original installment. After his amazing role in this film, it seems only right to give Cyborg more opportunities to shine, and this might only happen with the Snyderverse.
9 The Flash Also Had A Much Better Story In This One
While Cyborg was subject to limited screen time in Justice League 2017, Ezra Miller's The Flash was essentially just in the film for comic relief. This changed dramatically once again in Snyder's cut as The Flash became integral to the plot and was the main reason the Mother Boxes were unable to unite.
Without Whedon's jokes and with a more important role, this Flash is starting to seem likable again and fans are sure to want to see his solo outing now. When the speedster revealed his ability to time travel, fans across the world would have been jumping in the air and eager to watch Snyder's interpretation of the character once again in the near future.
8 Who Can Forget About That Awesome Knightmare Scene?
One of the most talked-about scenes from the Snyder cut was the Knightmare future scene where Batman dreams that Darkseid successfully took over Earth and possessed Superman. The peek into his Knightmare plotline was full of twists and awesomeness. Viewers saw an evil Superman, distraught about the death of Lois Lane and working with Darkseid.
Jared Leto's Joker returned, Wonder Woman was dead, Aquaman was killed, Wayne Manor was destroyed. The sequence was filled with incredibly dark and quite scary futures for the DCEU, but left fans wanting to see more and more of what could have been if Snyder had the opportunity to explore this even more.
7 Snyder Made Ben Affleck's Batman His Own Character Rather Than A Tony Stark Rip Off
Ben Affleck's Batman has come under a lot of controversies since his debut in Batman Vs. Superman. Living up to actors like Christian Bale is a hard job, but it's even harder when the director is trying to turn you into DC's version of Tony Stark with weird motivations. Snyder fixed the problem, however, by allowing Bruce Wayne to be Bruce Wayne.
His motivations went from feeling too old to keeping up with the world to feeling like he owed it to Superman, and to forming the Justice League and protect the Earth. The movie even gave viewers a little bit of an origin story for Affleck's Batman, who had felt rushed into the universe before. We found out that the Joker killed Robin, he had more iconic scenes with Alfred and overall seemed a more likable and relatable person.
6 The Martian Manhunter's Introduction Was Key To A Justice League 2
Despite the slightly odd and annoying scene between Lois and Martha talking about Clark Kent where it turns out the Martian Manhunter had shapeshifted into Martha, the introduction of Martian Manhunter was pretty epic. The fact that he could see into the future — pulling the strings of the movie without anybody knowing the entire time — was awesome.
As an original member of the Justice League, it was pretty clear that Snyder was setting up a sequel to the Justice League, but with some new characters. Namely Martian Manhunter and Green Lantern among probably some other DC heroes. Seeing Martian Manhunter even more in future editions of the Justice League would be epic and certainly strengthens Snyder's case for his universe to be expanded.
5 The Multiverse Could Be Vital In Future Storylines
Snyder's cut was mainly about the formation of the iconic team of heroes and this took up most of the plot, but unlike the previous version, Snyder delved deeper into the backstory and the motivations of the big bad Steppenwolf, who as it turns out, is only trying to unite the Mother Boxes in order to pay off his debts to another even bigger and even more powerful villain Darkseid (who was completely cut from 2017's Justice League).
What was so cool about the Darkseid character was that he introduced fans to the DCEU's multiverse. All have seen the multiverse in the CW TV shows, but never on the big screen before, and this could tie into many possible storylines. As Darkseid tells Steppenwolf that he has turned "100,000 worlds to dust" in his quest for the Anti-Life Equation, showing that he has already traveled across many alternate worlds.
4 The Snyderverse Brought Back The Perfectly Dark & Gritty Side Of The DCEU
The DCEU has come under a fair amount of scrutiny for its incredibly dark revival of the comic book characters. Likely due to the success of the MCU's light-hearted blockbuster franchise, some fans saw the DCEU movies as way too dark. But, Snyder's cut manages to strike a balance between the two and gave a serious and epic story with our beloved characters.
There was still the occasional joke, but they weren't cheesy like Whedon's, and most importantly there was still a good amount of darkness and grittiness that made the scenes perfectly dramatic. Perhaps this is the direction DC needs to go down to differentiate itself from the MCU, and in that case, the Snyderverse is perfect.
3 The Anti-Life Equation Storyline Was Only Just Beginning
Zack Snyder's Justice League finally gave us a glimpse at the actual motivating force behind the villains Steppenwolf, and most importantly Darkseid. It is revealed that the real reason Darkseid wanted to invade the Earth was in search of the Anti-Life Equation, which happened to be engraved on the surface of the Earth.
The Anti-Life Equation is one of the most powerful forces in the DC's multiverse and gives the wielder the ability to control the minds of sentient beings. Why it ended up carved on the Earth remained unknown and was set to be explored in further Snyder installments, giving fans another reason why they should be very excited to see his version of Justice League 2.
2 This Film Was A Great Example Of Creating Villains
In 2017's Justice League, a major criticism was the flawed and uninteresting villain Steppenwolf. With no real motive and a pretty mediocre look, it led to an underwhelming final battle and conclusion to the film. Thankfully, this was revamped in Snyder's cut and a proper backstory was introduced.
More questions were raised about the origins of the villain, as well as his master Darkseid, but most importantly fans were more engaged with their motives, proving that Snyder can create compelling villains, and making us even more intrigued to find out what other dark villains he was planning to use in the future.
1 Fans Need More Dark Superman Storylines By Snyder
Superman has always been one of the most popular, light-hearted good guys of all time, so it was a bit of a shock to see him appear in a black and white costume and appear evil in the Knightmare scene, but perhaps this is the revamp fans are in desperate need of. Many iterations of the man in the cape have already been made, but making a dark Superman is something completely new for the big screen.
Future plans of an evil Superman struggling with the death of his pregnant wife Lois Lane would be shocking — but possibly brilliant — to watch and is the perfect reason for Snyder to make his very own Man Of Steel 2. However, it looks like JJ Abrams will be rebooting the Superman franchise, but something different and slightly darker could be the better way forward.
