Reports: 4 Dave Chappelle comedy shows approved for Yellow Springs venue (original) (raw)

Comedian and Yellow Springs resident Dave Chappelle

A venue just outside Yellow Springs, Ohio received approval on Thursday to host four shows by comedian Dave Chappelle, according to a report from the the Dayton Daily News.

The Miami Township Board of Zoning Appeals in Green County, Ohio voted 3-2 in favor of allowing the shows at Wirrig Pavilion, Zoning Administrator Richard Zopf said.

The venue's owners petitioned the township to allow for the four ticketed comedy shows, scheduled between Sept. 30 and Oct. 31, the report states. Chappelle began hosting socially distanced, outdoor comedy shows at Wirrig Pavilion in May 2020 under a previous temporary use permit granted by the township, which expired in June.

Seating at the events will be limited to 400 people, with the pavilion's gates opening at 7:30 p.m., the Dayton Daily News reported. Shows will end by 11 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday.

According to plans submitted by Chappelle to the Yellow Springs Planning Commission, the comedian plans to open a restaurant, Firehouse Eatery, and a comedy club, Live from YS. Both will sell food and alcohol and have indoor and outdoor seating, with separate seating for performances.

Chappelle told the village commission earlier this month he hopes the club, with its intimate setting, will rival clubs in New York City where he got his start and will attract both high-level and local talent.

Yellow Springs is a small village near Dayton, north of Cincinnati. Chappelle's podcast, "The Midnight Miracle," was recorded last year inside his Yellow Springs clubhouse, known as "The Shack."
