ResearchCIRSE research agenda

Research policy

CIRSE is committed to improving patient care through the support of science, research, and clinical practice by conducting high-quality research in interventional radiology. The outcome of research projects conducted by CIRSE should help our members to better understand the benefits and risks of the therapies and services they provide and help to improve their decision-making on a day-to-day basis to provide the best possible care for their patients.

While conducting research projects, CIRSE society pays mind to:

CIRSE encourages members to develop research ideas and welcomes receiving these ideas. While the society does not provide direct funding for research studies, it offers an effective system of research review and refinement and at a later stage a comprehensive range of services to support members throughout the entire research process, from the idea, to protocol, to study conduct and study close-out including the dissemination of study results. CIRSE has built the in-house infrastructure to assists its members through Investigator Initiated/Sponsored Research requests, in collaboration with its members to develop high-quality research proposals, provide feedback and guidance, and ensure study success. Additionally, CIRSE offers aid with the application process, including the preparation of grant proposals and budgets. If you have a research idea or if you like to know more please contact us!

Research Committee

The Research Committee is comprised of a group of elected experts who are committed to promoting the highest standards of research and clinical practice. It aims to ensure adherence to CIRSE’s research policy when conducting research projects.

Furthermore, the Committee helps to evaluate research proposals submitted by members of the society. Each proposal undergoes careful review to ensure it meets CIRSE’s rigorous ethical and scientific standards. The Committee will then provide feedback and guidance to help researchers refine their proposals and increase the chance of receiving external funding.

In addition to reviewing research proposals, the Committee develops and promotes research initiatives that are relevant to our members and the wider scientific community. CIRSE society aims to identify key research questions and work to encourage research projects that can make a meaningful impact in guidelines and the practice of Interventional Radiology.

Next Research: CIRSE’s own CRO

As part of CIRSE’s commitment to improving patient care through the support of science and research the society established its own in-house research infrastructure in 2013. Following the successful design and conduct of several projects, CIRSE decided to take the next step in the evolution of its research activities established its own dedicated CRO – Contract Research Organisation “Next Research” in 2021.

Next Research was established to support the conduct of high-quality clinical research projects and is equipped to provide a reliable and efficient way to manage the complex process of clinical research, from study design to data collection, analysis, reporting and dissemination.

By establishing a CRO, CIRSE is able to offer its members access to a dedicated team of experienced research professionals who can help manage their clinical research projects. The CRO team is skilled in all aspects of clinical research, including protocol development, project management, data analysis, and medical writing.

In addition to providing support to CIRSE’s members, Next Research also helps to ensure the quality and integrity of the research conducted. The team follows rigorous ethical and regulatory guidelines to ensure that all research projects are conducted with the utmost care and attention to detail.

Through the establishment of an in-house CRO, CIRSE has been able to support its members in conducting high-quality clinical research projects that have the potential to improve patient care and outcomes and advance medical knowledge. CIRSE is proud of the work conducted with the support of Next Research and remains committed to supporting its members in their research endeavours.
