Strengthening the application of the European Convention on Human Rights in Georgia - Implementation of Human Rights, Justice and Legal Co-Operation Standards - www.coe.int (original) (raw)
The main partners and beneficiaries of the Project are: Supreme Court of Georgia, High School of Justice (HSOJ), Chief Prosecutor’s Office (CPO), Georgian Bar Association (GBA), State funded legal aid service (LAS).
The main aim is to strengthen the implementation of European Human Rights standards at national level.
Three expected results are foreseen under the project:
- National capacities on gender-sensitive pre-trial detention and effective investigation, jury trials including on combating ill-treatment are reinforced.
- The national monitoring of execution of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) judgments through reinforcement of parliamentary involvement is supported.
- The application of the ECtHR case-law by judges and prosecutors at national level is enhanced.
With a view to achieving these results, several activities will be implemented:
- Conducting conferences, round tables, workshops and trainings for the legal professional in Georgia in order to raise awareness about:
- Effective investigation of alleged ill-treatment in line with ECtHR case-law
- Pre-trial Investigation and the ECHR
- Reasoning of Criminal Judgments
- Re-opening of court cases following ECtHR judgments/decisions
- Legal reasoning and the European standards of application of coercive measures
- Landmark case-law of the ECtHR
- Developing/adapting a special training module on effective investigation of alleged ill-treatments in line with ECtHR case-law
- Translation of the relevant decisions of the Committee of Ministers
- Trainings for judges on research by using the tools of HUDOC search engine’s Georgian interface.
