Sisters Gert and Daisy manage to make £2 from selling an unwanted old dress to a costume hire shop.

Unfortunately it soon turns out that there's £2,000 sewn into the bustle of the frock, a fact that precipitates a merry chase! Also in pursuit of the money is nosy landlord Reginald Purdell, whose honesty is a matter of grave doubt!

Predictably, the sisters' aims to retrieve the dress grow increasingly complicated, and they are soon causing havoc in a northern theatre - with the police hot on their trail, and an air raid going on overhead!
